Welcome K-2 families to our music page! Each week I will post activities for students and families to do while at home that involves music. The activities will be posted at the beginning of each week. If there is anything due, it will be due on the Friday of that week. Thank you and enjoy these musical activities!

Activity Steps:

Step One: Watch the Activity Video.

Step Two: Complete the Last Week of School Sheet. Either print it off or answer the questions on your own paper.

Step Three: Take a picture of your sheet and send it to Mrs. Jakubowski! (Very much appreciated but not required.)

Activity One:

Step One: Watch the Instructional Video.

Step Two: Complete the One Week Dance Challenge (found below)! See if you can perform the dances each day!

Step Three: Take a picture of yourself from one of the days dancing and send it to Mrs. Jakubowski when the week is over! (Appreciated but not required.)

Activity Two: (Optional)

Step One: Choose your favorite song!

Step Two: Create your own dance to the song!

Step Three: If you want, send a picture or video of your dance to Mrs. Jakubowski!

--Two Week Music Challenge--

Step One: Watch Assignment Video.

Step Two: Print out the Two Week Music Challenge Form (to the right) or keep track of what you completed/how many points you have on your own.

Step Three: Come back to the chart each day to complete the day’s task OR complete the tasks when it fits into your schedule.

Step Four: Find the total amount of points you received at the end of each week.

Step Five: At the end of the two weeks on Friday, May 15th, send Mrs. Jakubowski an email with how many points you have and a picture of yourself! Your picture will be added to Mrs. Jakubowski’s website! (This step is appreciated but not required.)

--Listening and Drawing--

Activity One:

Step One: Watch the videos and do the activities from last week (April 20-24th) if you have not done so already!

Step Two: Watch the instructional video.

Step Three: Print out the Listen and Draw worksheet or make your own!

Step Four: Choose three (3) songs to listen to off of the playlist (below). Make sure at least one (1) song is from the Classical section of the playlist.

**Please note that you do not need to listen to the entire song!

Listen to about 30 seconds to a minute of it.

Step Five: Choose your favorite song out of the three and listen to the entire song. Complete the Listen and Draw worksheet by drawing what the song makes you think of and answering the questions on the bottom. (See Mrs. Jakubowski’s completed example for an idea of how to complete it.)

Step Six: Send a picture of your worksheet to Mrs. Jakubowski! (Appreciated but not required.)


Activity Two: (optional)

Step One: Take a walk outside and listen to the sounds you hear!

Step Two: Use a piece of paper and something to write with to draw what you heard on your walk! If you can’t remember, go for another walk or sit outside when you are drawing!

Step Three: If you would like, send a picture to Mrs. Jakubowski. This is not required.

Step Three: Print off or create your own chart for your Musical Scavenger Hunt (Found below.).

Step Four: Complete your Musical Scavenger Hunt.

Step Five: Send Mrs. Jakubowski a picture of your completed Musical Scavenger Hunt (appreciated but not required).

Step Six: Complete the Bonus Section on the Musical Scavenger Hunt if you would like (but not required)!

Musical Scavenger Hunt

There’s music all around us! Look around your home to see what you can find to demonstrate our music concepts. Be sure to ask an adult before playing any of your new instruments. Complete the chart with your findings!

Find something that…

  • Makes a HIGH sound

  • Makes a LOW sound

  • Makes LOUD sounds

  • Makes SOFT sounds

  • Moves FAST

  • Moves SLOW

  • You can SHAKE to make a sound

  • You can SCRAPE or RUB to make a sound

  • You can tap that is made out of METAL

  • You can tap that is made out of WOOD

BONUS: Make up a song or dance to your favorite song using the ‘found instruments’ (the things you found that created the sounds listed above) in the Scavenger Hunt.

--Rhythm Rainbow and Color Composition--

Step One: If you have not watched last week's videos (April 6-9), please do so before continuing.


Step Two: Watch Instructional Video.


Step Three: Print off your rainbow or create your own and complete it following the directions in the slideshow found to the left.


Step Four: Try playing the rhythms in the color composition in the slideshow on the left. (For those who used the rainbow with the rhythms already written, perform the composition with Mrs. Jakubowski in the video to the left!)


Step Five: Create your own color composition and try playing it!


Step Six: Send a picture to Mrs. Jakubowski of anything you want to show her about your color composition or rhythm rainbow! (Appreciated but not required.)


**Some tasks may be more challenging for certain students than others. Do what you can and have fun!

--Rhythm Review and Something New!--

Step One: Watch the Rhythm Review Video to the right.


Step Two: Watch the Something New Video to the right.


Step Three: Find something that can be played as a drum such as pots and pans or a laundry basket. Or be creative and create your own drum!


Step Four: Practice the rhythms on the rhythm sheet found below. Remember to keep a steady beat and say the words we say with each beat!


Step Five: Perform the rhythms with Mrs. Jakubowski in the Rhythm Performance Video. Send a picture or a video to Mrs. Jakubowski if you would like (but not required).

** Some grade levels might find this material easier to learn than others. If you are struggling with it, that’s okay! We will continue to work on this in the classroom!!

--Expression Review--

This week there will be two activities for you to do! You can do them all at once or separately. Be sure to check out the Music Online Resource page for more fun!

Activity One: Dynamic Review

Step One: Watch the Dynamic Review video posted by Mrs. Jakubowski below.

Step Two: Go around your house and find things that make loud sounds and soft sounds. Do the same thing outside.

Step Three: Complete the loud and soft chart found underneath the Dynamic Video with your findings from both outside and inside your house. You can either print off the chart from the link below or create your own chart to fill in!

Step Four: Take a picture of your chart and send it to Mrs. Jakubowski at jakubowski@erinschool.org.


Activity Two: Tempo Review

Step One: Watch the Tempo Review video posted by Mrs. Jakubowski below.

Step Two: Learn the song and motions to “A Ram Sam Sam” from the Tempo Review Video.

Step Three: Try singing the song and doing the motions with the Youtube video linked below!

--Create or Find Your Own Instrument--


Learning Target: To become familiar with musical instruments.


Step One: Watch the video about instruments on my website under the K-2 page or at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tde91GvEHV8


Step Two: Find things in your homes that you can use to create an instrument! Think outside of the box here! You can either find two pots to bang together, or you could glue noodles together and tie strings to it to make a string instrument. These can be as simple or creative as you would like!


Step Three: Turn on the radio or your favorite song and try to play your instrument with it.


Step Four: Send an email to Mrs. Jakubowski (jakubowski@erinschool.org) with a picture of you and your instrument creation! Please send these pictures to me by the end of Spring Break!


Step Five: Have fun!!!
