GROWTH MINDSET

We never give up!

We acted out scenarios showing how we can learn from our mistakes and to keep trying despite things being difficult. We are going to use Growth Mindset in all of our learning.

Helping never stops!

We never give up when learning Numeracy. Work together and learn from each other.

Keep trying until you score!

If at first you don't succeed try, try again!

We help each other learn- I don't know it YET!

Democracy

We have been learning about democracy and what this  means to us in Scotland. We have been researching about the Scottish Parliament and its workings.

We held our own debate , led by a presiding officer. The motion was should school be a 4 day week? The final vote was for the motion! It was definitely by a large majority.

We researched the workings of the Scottish Parliament and found out about the building, MSPs and how a debate is held

      Literacy and    Languages

In class we have been learning about comic writing. Everyone loved comic writing. Some people even started writing there own comics inspired by their favourite comics.

by Max, Luke and Douglas

' The comic was really good because we could imagine our own story to go with the characters' by Murray

We read the book Way Home by Libby Hathorn.  This is a picture book for older children with a surprising ending. At the end we discovered that the boy, Shane, is homeless. An ending that none of us guessed. We drew story maps to help us to retell the story. We also wrote  a diary, as Shane, to express his feelings and to retell his day. We found that we writing in a chatty, informal style helped us to take on the role of Shane.

' I liked describing what happened in the story and writing it in our own words' by Zander

 Maths and Numeracy

We have been thinking about place value- whole numbers and decimals. We used concrete materials to help us and remind us of the link between the digits. Some of us have been researching different types of numbers. We found out about square, cubed and even Fibonacci numbers!

'Fibonacci numbers were very confusing at first but once I understood the pattern it was much easier. I drew a snail with the spiral sequence on it.' Charlotte

Science

We have been learning about materials and their properties. We investigated which solids dissolve in liquid, how to separate different materials and which materials react with each other to form new materials. We learnt how to ask a question using scientific vocabulary, how to draw scientific diagrams and to observe different reactions.

'I liked when we mixed the salt and water and the sugar and water to see if it dissolved' by Calum McRoberts

What properties do these materials have ?

 Street Art

We read the book Way Home which inspired us to think about the differences between graffiti and street art.

We learnt  about how street art became a well known form of art and where it all started. We also learnt about lots of different types of street art like the big murals and things like tile designs . by Sam
