STEM Week - Mrs Rowland
Mrs Rowland came in to the class to tell us about her work as an occupational therapist. We had the opportunity to think about how our senses can help us to feel calm. It was a very relaxing way to finish a busy week.
Innovation Station
Mrs Martin set up a great series of activities in the Innovation Station for us. We had a lot of fun exploring the different technologies on offer and are looking forward to getting back there soon.
Mr Murray 2.0
We were visited by a familiar face - Mr Murray's twin brother. He is an electrician and showed some of the tools he uses and explained how electricity travels from a power station to our homes.
STEM Challenge
We tried a STEM challenge to design a crane that would move coastal defence blocks to prevent coastal erosion. There were some interesting design ideas, along with some plans that were maybe ahead of their time!
STEM Week
We were visited by Heather, a marine engineer. She works on boats that maintain buoys to keep shipping lanes safe. The class were able to have a close look at the safety equipment and tools that are essential for her to be able to carry out her job.
Rugby Coaching
We were able to take part in a great coaching session with Greg from Whitecraigs Rugby Club. He taught us some fun games to start off before we moved into mini-matches of touch rugby. Fortunately, despite the competitive nature of the matches, there were no broken noses or cauliflower ears!
We had a really interesting trip to the Eglinton Arms as part of our topic on running a business. The hotel manager Adrian explained how all the different parts of the hotel are organised. He was also keen to know what the class would add to the hotel to make it a unique destination for visitors. Thanks to the parent helpers who came on the trip with us!
Dress as You Please
It was all too much for everyone when we came to school in pyjamas!
Soar High Learning
We have reached the end of our most recent block of Soar High Learning. The focus this time has been sustainability in Scotland. There was a wonderful mix of information posters and slideshows, a drama performance, working models of wind turbines and water wheels and a 3D map of Scotland if sea levels rise by too much. We look forward to next week when we present them to other classes.
We have been developing our skills for striking and fielding in PE. This week we put the skills to the test in some really close, competitive games of rounders. There were a lot of home runs as well as some great catches and, most importantly, good teamwork.
Drop Everything and Read
As part of World Book Day, we had 3 'Drop Everything and Read' (DEAR) sessions. We had the chance to take some time to enjoy a chapter of a favourite book, as well as listening to part of an audiobook.
World Book Day
We have had some great costumes in the classroom today for World Book Day. We also played a guessing game of The Masked Reader using clues to guess famous readers and the books of their choice, competed in a door decoration competition and made origami corner bookmarks.
