Hello everyone and welcome to the NCC Blog.
This term the Primary 6's will be learning all about
the Human Body, through science, in the Infinity Learning Lab.
We will be focussing on different body systems (skeletal, muscular, respiratory, circulatory, digestive and nervous) and conducting many investigations to learn more about ourselves.
In Religious and Moral Education they will be learning about Ganesh in Hinduism.
I will regularly be posting on this blog so keep checking to see pictures of all the activities that your children have been involved in.
Here are some photographs of the Infinity Learning Lab and the activities your children can explore.
In science, we are learning about different body systems through our learning context of The Human Body.
We learned about the skeletal system and made skeletons out of cotton buds.
We learned about the respiratory system. We made model lungs and used lung bags to blow into so we can measure how much air our lungs held.
We learned about the digestive system in science. We discovered how food gets from our mouths all the way through our body until it comes out as waste. We crushed crackers and bananas into a bag, then used tights and cups to demonstrate this system practically.
Forces
Buoyancy
We tested lots of different objects to see if they would float or sink. We then were challenged to build a boat that could float and hold a small animal. In a tall beaker we had to use the plasticine to make a shape that was streamlined and a shape that was not.
Through Health and Wellbeing we have been learning about the dangers of drugs. We performed a role playing scenario where we were being offered a drug and what we could do or say to not take the drug! We pretended a sweet was a drug and took turns to be either the persuader or the person who was being offered it. We all managed to say no (Mrs Balloch did let us eat the sweet in the end though!)
Term 3 January to April
This term we will be learning about...
Science
Our Planet
Religious and Moral Education
Moses - Christianity
Ramadan - Islam (28th Feb - 30th Mar)
Eid-ul-Fitr - Islam (30th or 31st Mar)
In science, we were learning about plate tectonics, earthquakes and volcanoes. We conducted an investigation to find out which liquid was slowest at erupting from a volcano. We used oil, washing up liquid, syrup and paint as our liquids and our control was water. We realised in real life that lava did not all flow at the same rate. They all flowed at different rates.
In science were were exploring the 3 different types of rocks, igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. We learned that they were all part of the rock cycle. The school was gifted a rock collection a few years ago from someone who lived in the village. We used our microscopes to look at the crystals in the igneous rocks. We then made our own crystals out of epsom salts.

In health and wellbeing we were learning about healthy eating. Firstly we were learning about where our food comes from and were matching which countries produce which foods. For our first cooking lesson we were focussing on Italy and we made pitta pizzas. The recipe has been put up on Google Classrooms. The pizza was delicious and we had empty plates all around. The skills were were learning were working as a team, reading the recipe and operating a hot oven.
Our second cooking lesson was making fajitas from Mexico. The skills we were learning were cutting vegetables with a sharp knife, setting a table, reading a recipe, grating and using a frying pan.
Our final cooking lesson was making crepes from France. We worked independently to complete this task. We used a lemon press and measured our ingredients carefully. All the recipes are in our Google Classroom page. Teddy wins the award for being the best washer and drier. Thank you to all our parent helpers over the 3 lessons for all your help.
We had some left over money from our cooking lessons so Mrs Balloch treated us to ice cream with all the trimming, yum, yum!
