The East Providence School Department offers a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) benefit to Teachers, Administrators, and Paraprofessionals, allowing employees to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible out-of-pocket healthcare and dependent care expenses. By contributing to an FSA, you can reduce your taxable income and save money throughout the year on expenses you know you’ll have.
Types of FSAs Available:
Healthcare FSA – Covers eligible medical, dental, vision, and prescription expenses not covered by insurance.
Dependent Care FSA – Covers eligible daycare, preschool, summer day camp, and elder care expenses.
Key Features:
Contributions are deducted from your paycheck before taxes.
Funds must be used within the plan year, with limited exceptions (per IRS guidelines).
Eligible expenses are defined by IRS Publication 502 (for healthcare) and IRS Publication 503 (for dependent care).
Changes to your FSA can only be made effective January 1st or if you experience a qualifying life event.
Example of Eligible Expenses:
Co-pays and deductibles
Prescription medications
Eyeglasses and contact lenses
Dental treatments
Daycare and after-school care for eligible dependents
