The East Providence School Department is committed to supporting employees during times of personal or family health needs, as well as ensuring equal access to the workplace through reasonable accommodations.
Medical Leave (FMLA):
Eligible employees may take job-protected, unpaid leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for up to 12 weeks within a 12-month period. FMLA may be used for:
The employee’s own serious health condition
The birth, adoption, or foster placement of a child
To care for a spouse, child, or parent with a serious health condition
Certain military-related circumstances involving an eligible family member
FMLA ensures continued health insurance coverage during leave under the same terms as if the employee had not taken leave. All FMLA requests require medical certification and must be submitted in a timely manner.
Workplace Accommodations:
Employees with medical conditions or disabilities may request reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Accommodations are intended to help employees perform the essential functions of their jobs and may include modifications to duties, schedules, or equipment.
