 4-H ALBERTA SCHOLARSHIPS - $300 to $1,500

• You must be a past or present member of a 4-H Alberta Club for a minimum of 3 years.

• You may apply for a 4-H scholarship every year that you are a full time post-secondary student at an officially recognized institution.

• Successful applicants must provide proof that they are attending a post secondary institution as a full time student.

ADVANCING FUTURES BURSARY PROGRAM – school expenses and fixed monthly living allowance.

Assists youth who have been or continue to be in the care or custody of Alberta Children’s Services to achieve their educational goals by offering opportunities and resources through education. Must be between 18 and 24 years of age to apply.  Application and information available on-line at www.advancingfutures.gov.ab.ca

Deadlines available are:

• Apply by June 1 to begin studies anytime during the upcoming academic year (September to August)

• Apply by October 1 to begin studies anytime between January and August of the following year.

• Apply by February 1 to begin studies anytime between May and August of the same year.

ALBERTA ACADEMY OF AESTHETICS - $1000

Awarded to one deserving student from each High School per calendar year. The scholarship award will be put toward the tuition of the full -time Aesthetics Program. The scholarship is awarded to the highest academic achiever graduating from a grade 12 Cosmetology program with an average of 80% or more. ALBERTA BLUE CROSS 50th ANNIVERSARY SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ABORIGINAL STUDENTS - up to $1,500

Applicants must be a member of a first nation or band, or have Inuit, Métis or Indian Status as referenced on the Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada website. Applicants must be enrolling in the first year of any full-time post-secondary certificate or diploma program of two or more years duration. Applicants must clearly describe their community involvement, personal goals and financial need, must have been residents of Alberta during their most recent year of study, and must be accepted to an accredited post-secondary institution. ALBERTA FISH & GAME ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP - $1,500

The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum one-year environmental sciences or related program at an accredited Alberta post-secondary institution; must also be or have a parent that is a member of the AFGA or an affiliated fish & game club; must be 21 years of age or younger; must fill out application & write a minimum 500 word essay; not necessarily based on high marks. ALBERTA GOLF ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION - over 50 awards of up to  $1000

Scholarship applications will be judged on the following criteria if applicable:

• Academic performance in the previous school year

• Financial need

• Participation in volunteer or community activities

• Relevant work experience

ALBERTA JUNIOR ATHLETIC AWARD - $2,000

Applicants must be an Alberta resident, must be a participant in one of the following junior sports teams:

- Alberta junior hockey team (10 Scholarships)

- Alberta junior football team (30 Scholarships)

- Prairie Baseball Academy (30 Scholarships)

ALBERTA MILK - MILK EVERY MOMENT SCHOLARSHIP - $1000 (2 available – 1 female, 1 male)

This award is for students who achieve a balance in life, participate in school life, and have the desire to do great things in life.

• Grade 12 student

• Participate in athletic activities (school intramurals, member of a sports team, or participate in activities outside of school i.e. Dance, water polo, hockey, karate, etc.)

• Demonstrate an attitude of fair play  and sportsmanship while participating in sport and social activities

• Show personal development with involvement in activities other than athletics and academics (i.e. Community work, hobbies, clubs, youth programs, etc.)

• Plan to attend a post-secondary facility in Canada

• Be an Alberta resident

Applicants will be required to submit four complete copies of the application signed by the student and school principal/assistant principal, a resume, maximum two letters of reference, and an essay of a maximum of 500 words. The Alberta Milk Never Stop application form, requirements and eligibility criteria are posted on the ASAA website http://www.asaa.ca/recognition/scholarships/alberta-milk-asaa-scholarship.   Students must be nominated by their school.  Please contact your counsellor to request consideration.  The deadline for schools to submit to ASAA is June 30 annually, so students must have their applications in at their High School Career Centre on or before June 14 annually.

ALBERTA UNION OF PROVINCIAL EMPLOYEES

For bursaries based on financial need, and for the $2,500 Brent Gawne Memorial Scholarship, members of AUPE with two consecutive years service as of July 6 of current year are eligible, and/or their spouse, and/or their financial dependents, and/or dependents of retired or deceased members. Eligible dependents must be under the age of 25 years.  Original applications and attachments are to be mailed to the AUPE head office. In addition, AUPE Bursaries/Endowments are set up with the following Institutions for first and subsequent year students:

• Colleges - Fairview, Grande Prairie,  Keyano, Lakeland, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Olds, Red Deer

Once you have chosen the institution you will attend, ask their Finance Department or Bursar’s office, or check their scholarship website for an AUPE Bursary Application. The application form is to be returned to your post-secondary institution.

ALEXANDER RUTHERFORD SCHOLARSHIPS

The Alexander Rutherford Scholarship (the Rutherford) was named in honour of Alexander Rutherford, Alberta’s first Premier. The Rutherford recognizes and rewards academic achievement in senior high school to encourage students to pursue post-secondary studies. Apply for all three years in the year you plan to attend post secondary. There are no application deadlines. 

Student Aid Alberta recommends students apply when your official high school transcripts are available & you have completed any high school upgrading credit courses you are taking - because you can only apply once - and you will want to submit your highest marks.  Note: Your high school upgrading credit courses must appear on an official Alberta High School Transcript of Achievement.  Apply in the year that you are planning on attending full-time post-secondary studies.

ALEX TUTSCHEK FCPA, FCA AWARD FOR INDIGENOUS STUDENT HIGH SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENT - $1,500

One award is available to a high school indigenous student enrolled in, or accepted by, a business program at an Alberta post-secondary institution.  For information and applications, please go to : https://www.cpaalberta.ca/Foundation/Support-Programs-and-Scholarships/Scholarships/Indigenous-Scholarships.  Deadline in May.

ANNA & JOHN KOLESAR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1500

Applicants for the Anna & John Kolesar Memorial Scholarship must be Alberta residents and from a family where neither parent obtained a university degree. In addition, they must be graduating high school in the current academic year and must be enrolling for full-time study in the first year of a program in a Faculty of Education. ASAA PAY IT FORWARD SCHOLARSHIP - 10 of $500 

To be eligible the nominated student: • Must have participated in at least one ASAA sanctioned sport during all three years of high school; • Must be a grade 12 student; • Must be in good standing at their school (as endorsed by school administration); • Must have either: a) Coached (assistant or head) one team during their three years of high school; at either school or community level in any sport; or, b) Officiated during their three years of high school; at either school or community level in any sport. ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA AGRICULTURAL FIELDMEN (AAAF) MEMORIAL BURSARY- $500

Bursaries are available to students who are Alberta residents continuing their education at a College or University enrolled in an agricultural or environmental science program. Must supply a copy of their high school marks, together with a letter of acceptance & course of studies planned at a post-secondary institution. ATCO INDIGENOUS EDUCATION PROGRAMS - $500 - $1,500

Supports First Nation, Inuit and Métis students across Canada by providing financial assistance to help them in their quest for higher education. These awards, bursaries and scholarships are given to students who demonstrate leadership capabilities and strive to be role models in their schools and communities.

• Merit Awards ($500) – for students completing Grades 10 – 12, including upgrading;

• Bursaries ($1,000) – for students enrolled in trade, diploma or certificate programs;

• Scholarships ($1,500) – for students enrolled in degree or graduate programs.

You are eligible to apply for ATCO’s three Indigenous Education Awards if you meet the following criteria:

• Are a Canadian Indigenous person;

• Are enrolled full-time in high school (including upgrading) or an accredited post-secondary institution or training program;

• Are not the child of an ATCO employee.

BELCOURT BROSSEAU METIS AWARDS – 140 awards ranging from $2,000 - $10,000

In order to meet the criteria for an award, applicants must :

• Be Métis

• Intend to pursue a program of study leading to a recognized licence, certificate, diploma, undergraduate or professional degree in Alberta

• Be permanent residents or citizens of Canada

• Be residents of Alberta

Primary consideration will be given to applications demonstrating:

• Financial need

• Connection to the Métis community

• Likelihood of improved career opportunities

CAROLE FORHAN THEATRE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP - $500

Applicants must be a resident of the greater Central Alberta area, apply the award towards costs associated with a recognized workshop or program of a Theatre Arts nature, meet all the admission criteria and be accepted (if applicable) into the program for which funding is being requested.  They must also demonstrate commitment, dedication, work ethic and passion towards theatrical arts, as verified through two reference letters. CHARMAINE LETOURNEAU SCHOLARSHIP – number & value of awards vary

Applicants must be a resident of Alberta, be deaf or hard of hearing, have applied or been accepted to an academic or training program at a qualified  post-secondary or vocational school, demonstrate financial need, demonstrate knowledge of sign language.  Consideration will be given to leadership within your school or community; regular attendance, punctuality, diligence and commitment. DAVID (FCA) & JANET BENTLEY HIGH SCHOOL EXCELLENCE AWARD - $2,500

One award granted annually to one (1) student in Grade 12 at any Alberta high school. Preference will be given to applicants/nominees who will need to relocate within Alberta in order to attend a post-secondary institution. Selection is based on involvement in volunteer activities, satisfactory academic achievement, and an expressed interest in pursuing a professional accounting designation. DR. ERNEST & MINNIE MEHL SCHOLARSHIP - $3500

Based on scholastic achievement in Grade 12 diploma examinations, financial need and commitment of the individual. Criteria will be the same as the Rutherford Scholar Awards. Recommendations of school principals and financial information will also be considered. Recipients are selected from applications received for an Alexander Rutherford Scholarship. Students who have completed their diploma exams are eligible for this award for the school year.

ELMER AND ONA HANSEN MEMORIAL FUND SCHOLARSHIP - 1 @ $20,000, 1 @ $15,000, 1 @ $10,000, 7 @ $5,000

Applications open in May 2021. Applicants must be Alberta rural farm young persons; must be enrolled as first-year students at an acknowledged post-secondary institution and not have previously started or completed a post-secondary program; must have graduated from high school and be no older than 25 years of age; must need to leave home to pursue a post-secondary education or trade.  This grant is open to all rural farm youth and 4-H experience is not mandatory to qualify for this award.

FEDERATION OF ALBERTA GAS CO-OPS LTD. ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - 4 @ $1,000

Available to children of co-operative members of gas utilities within the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops, as well as, children or landowners who are serviced by gas member towns, villages, counties, or bands. Memberships must have been in place at least one full year. Children of active members of the Provincial Federation Board are not eligible. Applicants must have admission to the first year of a degree or diploma or apprenticeship program at any Canadian accredited post secondary institute of learning with the following restrictions: students attending an institution in the Province of Alberta will only be eligible. Candidates must have completed the course work of the last one (1) year of schooling required for admission to the post secondary institution and must have obtained an academic standing of at least seventy five percent (75%) in core subjects.

GLEN ARMITAGE MEMORIAL EDUCATION FUND - $1500

This scholarship was created in 2008 to support a member of a needy rural family desiring advanced education. Applicant must:

• be a Canadian citizen and be an Alberta resident

• have primary family income from the agriculture sector

• be in need of financial assistance in pursuing post secondary education

• have demonstrated leadership qualities in family, community, and school involvement and/or clubs and teams

• plan on pursuing further education at a recognized educational institution

HEC GERVAIS ACADEMIC & CURLING SCHOLARSHIP – 3 pf $3,000

Applicant must be an active curler & have competed in Junior Men's or Women's, High School, Winter Games, or Mixed competitions; must be age 20 or less as of Dec 31 in the year of application; For other criteria specifications & application please refer to the website at:  http://www.hecgervaisscholarship.com/ Deadline for application is May 31 of each year.

IODE CORONATION BURSARY (PROVINCIAL CHAPTER) - $1000

To be eligible you must have been an Alberta resident for at least 3 years and be entering any degree-granting program in Alberta. This bursary is based on financial need.  Applications are available here.  Deadline is July 15th of each year.

JOHN HASSELFIELD ENDOWMENT FOUNDATION -  up to $400

The John Hasselfield Endowment Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization that was created to provide support to young people wishing to take part in personal development and learning through education, sports/physical activity or visual/performing arts. The Foundation assists students who might otherwise not fulfill that desire because life has put obstacles in their path in ways beyond their control. Up to $400 is provided to student applicants to enable them to take part in an activity. These funds can be used for bus fare, equipment, supplies or other items needed to attend enhanced learning activities.

KEYERA ENERGY PETER J. RENTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $6000 ($3000 per year for two years)

The scholarship is intended to assist and encourage Alberta students to pursue full-time studies in a post-secondary program in a field related to the oil and gas industry. Applicant must plan to enroll in an accredited Alberta post-secondary institution in the first year of a degree or diploma program; be a Canadian citizen; be an Alberta resident; have completed the requirements for high school graduation in Alberta. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS STATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR AB/NWT – $1,500 a year for up to 4 years

This scholarship is open to Knights, their children, wives or widows of Alberta Knights of Columbus who are in good standing in their councils. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of all round achievement in the areas of academics, athletics, the arts, school, community & church involvement as well as financial need. MANCAP FOUNDATION LEGACY EDUCATION GRANT - $5000

Six Education Grants are available to graduating students planning to start their own business after post secondary. Two primary criteria: the applicant has demonstrated a desire to be an entrepreneur and has financial need. Application available on-line at www.mancapfoundation.com.  Deadline July 31 of each year (after high school graduation).

MANDIN AWARD - up to $800

Annually Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta provides an award up to $800 to assist an individual or individuals in one family who have a learning disability. The individual will currently be a K-11 student in Alberta. Eligible programs and services will include, but not limited to, supporting the costs of attending a summer camp, social skill development courses, tutoring, assessments and technology.

MASONIC HIGHER EDUCATION BURSARIES - 30 of $5,000, 2 of $7,000

To provide assistance to those students wishing to receive a higher education but lacking the ever increasing funds to do so. Goes towards tuition at post-secondary institutions in Alberta.  Bursaries are awarded on a basis of need and proven scholastic ability. Application available on-line at http://www.mhebf.com/ Deadline is February 1 of each year.

MOTOR DEALERS ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA SCHOLARSHIP- $500-$1500

The MDA Education Foundation was established to provide an avenue for scholarship opportunities to dealership staff.~ From trade and technical scholarships, to bursaries for finance and dealership management programs at SAIT and Georgian College- the MDA wants to provide assistance where it is needed, and reward excellence in academic achievements. Eligibility requirements:

• enrolling in Automotive Technical Trade Apprenticeship Programs                                   

• enrolling in Canadian Automotive Institute Program (either Georgian College, Barrie or SAIT Polytechnic, Calgary)                               

• Alberta resident                        

• apprentice or employed by active MDA member dealer

• financial need

Students must provide:

• a copy of their enrollment transcript

Applications are accepted year-round & reviewed by the MDA scholarship committee on a quarterly basis. Scholarship values are assessed based on need & merit (marks & other achievements). Students are eligible to apply for every year of their schooling or technical training so long as they remain employed by an MDA Member Dealer. Application available at www.mdaalberta.com.

PREMIER'S CITIZENSHIP AWARD

To recognize students graduating from high school who have supported and contributed to Alberta communities through public service and voluntary endeavours.  Recipients will receive a plaque and a letter of commendation from the Premier.  One award is available for each high school in Alberta. More information available at https://www.alberta.ca/premiers-citizenship-award.aspx.  Nominations usually requested in late April or early May.  Students must fill out a Google Form that will be made available on March 1. Then, administration can finalize a selection and the school application before submission to the province. Application opens March 1 and closes May 5 of each year.

QUEEN ELIZABETH II GOLDEN JUBILEE CITIZENSHIP MEDAL & SCHOLARSHIP -$5,000

This award was created to commemorate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.  The five most outstanding recipients of the Premier’s Citizenship Award will receive the Queen’s Golden Jubilee citizenship Medal, a letter of commendation from the Lieutenant Governor, and $5,000. Nomination deadline in June to Alberta Scholarship Programs.

QUEEN’S GOLDEN JUBILEE SCHOLARSHIP FOR PERFORMING ARTS - $5000

Awarded annually to a student in the performing arts who shows extraordinary talent and potential and who demonstrates clear educational/training goals and objectives.

Applicants may apply for:

• Any level of undergraduate studies; or

• Equivalent in an accredited performing arts program; or

• Any level of a technical performing arts school; or

• A recognized program or mentorship

NOTE: One scholarship will be awarded to one of the performing arts eligible for this program in a three-year annual rotation: music, theatre, and dance.

QUEEN’S GOLDEN JUBILEE SCHOLARSHIP FOR VISUAL ARTS - $5000

Awarded annually to a student in the visual arts who shows extraordinary talent and potential and who demonstrates clear educational/training goals and objectives.

Some of the eligibility criteria includes:

• For the purposes of this scholarship program the visual arts can include but are not restricted to: drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, clay, glass, food, metal, fiber or combination of these.

• Must be a resident of Alberta

• The scholarship will only be granted if the applicant can prove enrollment

RAP/CTS SCHOLARSHIP - up to 500 scholarships of $1000

Recipients are selected based on the criteria. 

Program specific criteria:

o   RAP - complete 250 hours of on-the-job training while attending high school (before graduation).  Apprentice on-the-job  hours must be updated with AIT by August 1 of each year.

o   CTS - complete an apprenticeship pathway while attending high school (the “Record of Courses Completed” must be submitted to the local AIT office).  The form must be assessed by August 1 of each year.

o   An academic component has been added as a final step to selecting recipients. Apprentices are ranked based on their high school marks in English, Math and Sciences.

Career and Technology students must also have a copy of their 'CTS Course Completion Record', provided by a supervising teacher, on file with Apprenticeship and Industry Training. It must be signed by a teacher, principal, journeyperson instructor and local Apprenticeship and Industry Training office staff. 

The top 500 RAP/CTS students in Alberta will receive RAP/CTS scholarships.

·        Students are only eligible to receive this scholarship in the year they graduate.

This scholarship program is one that you don’t even have to apply to be eligible! All you need to do is consent and provide your Social Insurance Number (SIN) – it’s that easy!

ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION LADIES' AUXILIARY BURSARY, ALBERTA-N.W.T. COMMAND - $500

These awards are for Alberta and N.W.T. Command students entering their first Term of a University, School of Technology and Art, Nursing Program, or any recognized College within Alberta-N.W.T. These awards are intended to assist children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews of ex-service personnel, as well as children and grandchildren of current serving personnel, R.C.M.P., Fire fighters, Volunteer Fire Fighters and Reserve Personnel in advancing their education. They are not for mature students = i.e. students over twenty years of age.

Students may obtain an application form at their school's Career Centre, HERE,  or write to the Ladies' Auxiliary, Bursary Chairman, 2020 - 15th Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2M 3N8, or they may contact the nearest Auxiliary or Legion Branch.

The completed Application Form should be mailed on or before August 31st to the Ladies' Auxiliary Bursary Chairman.

SIOBHAN ISABELLA REID MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - not less than $800

This scholarship is intended for a full-time student attending an Alberta University who is enrolled in a program that will lead to that individual being able to assist children and/or adults with learning disabilities. SYNCRUDE ABORIGINAL & WOMEN EDUCATION AWARDS PROGRAM - 6 awards @ $2000 each

• Two awards of $2000.00 each for Aboriginal people attending post secondary educational institutions pursuing studies in the Finance/Accounting/Business disciplines.

• Two awards of $2000.00 each for women attending post-secondary institutions pursuing a degree in Science & Technology.

To be eligible you must:

• be aboriginal peoples (First Nation, Inuit, & Métis Nation); women pursuing studies in science and technology.

• have lived in Alberta for at least one year

• be registered as a full time student leading to a recognized degree or diploma

• provide parental or spousal financial information

• provide your most recent transcripts

• provide proof of acceptance into accredited colleges or universities within Canada

TIESSEN FOUNDATION BROADCAST SCHOLARSHIP - $750

VOICE OF ALBERTANS WITH DISABILITIES (VAD) - EDUCATION FOR LIFE BURSARY - $500

This bursary is awarded to people with disabilities who are entering their first year of post-secondary training, full time or part time. The bursary assists first-time post-secondary learners who require support in overcoming the financial barriers they may encounter when taking on educational challenges. Recipients must have a disability, live in Alberta, use the bursary for tuition fees and/or course materials, submit a completed application form, include a letter of reference and submit a short biography.   Applications available on-line at https://vadsociety.ca/support/bursaries.  All applicants for the Education for Life Bursary will be considered for the Elsa Marie Lodewyk Memorial Bursary.  Deadline is November 15 of each year.

YOUNG EMERGING PROFESSIONALS AWARD - $1,500

Awarded to two (2) Alberta high school students. In addition to satisfactory academic standing, applicants must also demonstrate the following qualities in their applications: professionalism, integrity, ethics & leadership.
