4-H CANADA LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE AWARDS OF DISTINCTION (L.E.A.D) - $20,000

The awards honour youth who have become exceptional leaders through their 4-H experience and who share the best of themselves with their community.  Information available at: https://4-h-canada.ca/lead.  Applications open March 1 and deadline is end of May each year.

4-H SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS

4-H offers a number of scholarships that open for application on March 1 of each year. These are all for 4-H members. Coca-Cola 4-H Post-Secondary Education Scholarship offers 60 scholarships of $1,000. John Deere Canada 4-H Scholarship offers 12 scholarships of $1,000. TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarship offers 12 $2,500 scholarships to 4-H members who are pursuing post-secondary education in agriculture, ag-science or agri-business at a Canadian university or college. Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers 4-H Scholarship offers two scholarships of $1000 to 4-H members planning to attend a Canadian university or college in an agriculture-based program, ideally with a focus on sheep-related studies.

AGNES JACKS SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS - $1000

Applicants must be: ringette players registered with one of Ringette Canada’s provincial/territorial member associations or NCCP-certified ringette coaches or active on-ice ringette-certified officials who will be enrolled full-time in a recognized post-secondary education institution for the following academic year. Applicants must have actively participated in ringette as player, coach or on-ice official for at least 5 of the last 7 years & must be registered in the current playing season. Applications sent to Ringette Canada must be received in their office no later than April 30 each year. Applications are available at http://www.ringette.ca/athletes/scholarship-forms.

AIA AND THE UNIVERSITY OF THE AFTERMARKET FOUNDATION (UofAF) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM  - $1000

Qualified applicants must be:

• a graduating high school senior;

• enrolled in a college-level program, university or an accredited automotive technical program (contact AIA for a complete list);

• priority given to those pursuing a career in automotive aftermarket;

• attending a full-time program in Canada

ALLIANCE FOR EQUITY OF BLIND CANADIANS T-BASE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM $1,000

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of: Academic performance; Community involvement; and Overcoming adversity.  Each criterion will contribute in the overall evaluation process, but equal weight will not be applied when determining a final score. Rather, each criterion will serve to assist in distinguishing the exceptionalities and strengths among the candidates.

ARTHUR PAULIN SCHOLARSHIP - $700

Applicants must be enrolled in an automotive aftermarket industry related program of curriculum at a Canadian college or university.  This includes students pursuing their studies as an automotive apprentice.  It also includes studies in auto body, hard parts, heavy duty, or motive power (machinists).  Application form available at https://www.aiacanada.com/career-resources/grants-and-scholarships/arthur-paulin-automotive-aftermarket-scholarship-award/.  Deadline November 30 each year.

ATLAS SHRUGGED ESSAY CONTEST - Top Prize: $10,000; Second Prizes (3): $2,500; Third Prizes (5): $500 

Open to all 12th grade, college undergraduate, and graduate students worldwide. Students are permitted to submit one entry for Atlas Shrugged per year. Essays must be 800-1600 words in length and written in English only. Essays will be judged on whether the student is able to argue for and justify his or her view—not on whether the Institute agrees with the view the student expresses. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophical meaning of Atlas Shrugged. AZAZIE SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000 USD

AZAZIE Scholars are committed to serving and empowering their communities. Scholarships are available to high school seniors (graduating before July 1, 2021) in the U.S. and Canada. Students must be enrolled or accepted and seeking a degree at a U.S. or Canadian university or college and write a 500-800 word essay on the topic: "Do you consider yourself to be a leader? Why or why not?"

BARRON PRIZE FOR YOUNG HEROES - $10,000

On April 15, must be: between the ages of 8 and 18 (not yet age 19), permanent residents of and currently residing in the U.S.A. or Canada; currently working on an inspiring service project or have done so within the past 12 months, working to serve their community in some way.

BAYER FUND OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP-  $1500

For students entering their first year of post-secondary education in agriculture, food science or culinary arts at a Canadian college or university.  Application available at  https://www.cropscience.bayer.ca/Our-Company/ScholarshipInformation/Opportunity-Scholarship or in the Career Centre.  Deadline is beginning of June each year.

BEART-PRESETS ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP - $2,000

In order to apply, fill out the online application form and submit it. Winner is selected based on a written essay on a different topic each year, relating to BeArt Presets. Applicants must be written in English, with correct spelling and grammar.

BEAVERBROOK VIMY PRIZE - European Learning Experience

The Vimy Foundation’s premiere educational program, the Beaverbrook Vimy Prize, is a prestigious two-week-long learning experience during which exceptional youth, 15-17 years of age, study the interwoven First and Second World War history of Canada, Great Britain, and France.

Scheduled for August of each year in Belgium and France, students will attend lectures, visit former battlefields, trenches and underground tunnels, as well as visit museums and cemeteries, and explore monuments such as the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.  Canadian, British, and French prize recipients will also participate in commemorative ceremonies and meet a few of the remaining veterans and members of the French Resistance.  For more details and to apply, please go to: https://www.vimyfoundation.ca/programs/beaverbrook-vimy-prize/.  

BIGSUN SCHOLARSHIP - $500

Write and submit a short essay (500 - 1,000 words) answering the following questions: How did your participation in sports during your high school years influence you? Has your participation influenced your career goals? Has your participation influenced how you relate to your family? All student athletes are eligible regardless of the sport they are engaged in or the capacity in which they participate. The student must be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute. BLITZ SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

BRANDON WALLI "PHONES DOWN, EYES UP" MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

The Brandon Walli "Phones Down, Eyes Up" Memorial Scholarship is open to students graduating each year who are pursuing a post-secondary education in music and the arts and who have volunteer experience. Geotab is proudly hosting this scholarship in Brandon Walli's name for students who show the same love of music and art that Brandon possessed. Brandon Walli tragically lost his life at the age of 23 while crossing the road in 2016. BREAKTHROUGH JUNIOR CHALLENGE - $250,000 Post secondary scholarship, $50,000 for your teacher, $100,000 breakthrough Science Lab

To enter, make a  3-minute video explaining a big idea in Physics, Life Sciences, Mathematics or the Science of the COVID-19 pandemic in an engaging, illuminating, and creative way.

Anyone ages 13 through 18 is eligible.  The winner will be invited to an awards ceremony where the prize will be presented in front of superstars of science, Silicon Valley, and Hollywood.  This is a KHAN Academy Scholarship.  Deadline in June of each year.

BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM – $1,000 to $50,000

Selection criteria include academic achievement (must have a GPA of 2.5 out of 4) and participation in school and community activities.   For some of the scholarships, length of employment, work experience and financial information will be considered.

BURMAN UNIVERSITY SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is available to first year, first-time students with superior academic achievement from a high school graduating class in schools located in Canada, US, Bermuda, or Bahamas.  

Eligibility is based on a Burman Admission Average of 93% or 3.72GPA with a minimum of 5 qualifying academic courses.

An eligible student will receive a 100% tuition scholarship for a minimum of 15 Burman credits a term. This scholarship may be renewed for an additional 3 years by meeting the scholarship criteria of completing 15 credits a term and achieving a 3.9 GPA each year.

CANADIAN AGRI-BUSINESS EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP - $2,500

Who is eligible: Canadian Grade 12 students who are entering into an accredited agriculture college or university.   Seven $2,500 scholarships will be awarded annually - one to an Alberta student - based on a combination of leadership attributes, academic standing, and an essay response to the question, “Name a challenge that you think agriculture can help solve. How will your future career in agriculture allow you to play a role in solving that program?”

CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF PRINCIPALS STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD - $250

Criteria for Selection:  (100 possible points): Leadership in school activities (1 to max. of 25 points), Leadership in the community (1 to max. of 25 points), Academic achievement (1 to max. of 20 points), Essay (1 to max. of 20 points), Recognition, awards, honours and scholarships (1 to max. of 10 points).  Information and applications available at: https://cdnprincipals.com.  Must request nomination from your school by contacting your school counsellor.  Schools are allowed to nominate only one student. Deadline for application is March 1 of each year. Please contact your counsellor by February 1 to inquire about becoming nominated.

CANADIAN COWBOYS ASSOCIATION HIGH SCHOOL RODEO SCHOLARSHIP -  2 of $500

Must be a member in good standing with SHSRA; Provide proof of enrollment to a secondary institution or program prior to the Scholarship being paid out; Complete the application form in full.   https://canadiancowboys.ca/scholarships/   Deadline July 31 of each year (after high school graduation). 

Provide the CCA with a written application (essay form) that includes the following:

• Number of years involved in rodeos

• Events worked in rodeos

• Rodeo Accomplishments

• Rodeo goals

• A short summary of what rodeo means to you

CANADIAN HARD OF HEARING ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM – 3 of $1000 & 1 of $2,000

Applicants must be either hard of hearing, deafened or oral deaf with the premise that all applicants use spoken language as their primary means of communication. Those who communicate primarily through sign languages are directed to the Canadian Association for the Deaf.  Students should be registered in or planning to register for a full-time program as of September 2016. Support documentation required. Selection is based on academic achievement, determination to cope with hearing loss, & community involvement. CANADIAN NATURAL 'BUILDING FUTURES' SCHOLARSHIP - up to $3000

To qualify, applicants must be a child/dependent of a Canadian Natural employee and/or Indigenous (First Nations, Metis and Inuit included).

Be a resident of Western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba) for at least one year prior to application. Students from communities where Canadian Natural has operations will receive added consideration.

Hold a Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN).

Be pursuing an area of study that is relevant to the oil and natural gas industry and/or that supports the communities where these activities occur.

Maintain a passing GPA of at least 2.3, which is the equivalent of approximately 70% or a C+ More information can be found at: https://www.cnrl.com/careers/student-opportunities/scholarships. CANADIAN WOMEN IN MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

There are five awards of $1000 each, with one award to be presented in each of the five regions of Canada (British Columbia, The Prairies and Territories, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada).  The scholarship is open to female students enrolled in any year of study in secondary school and who are contributing to their school's leadership team or student council.  Deadline is mid-January each year  For more information and to apply, please go to: https://fcm.ca/en/about-fcm/awards/canadian-women-in-municipal-government-scholarship

CARA BROWN RINGETTE SCHOLARSHIP - $1000 (2 available)

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide aide towards post-secondary education for competitive ringette players at the AA level (or at the highest level offered in the applicant’s community) who are entering university for the first time and have demonstrated academic excellence combined with a strong commitment to the sport of ringette. Applicants must also have achieved academic excellence of a minimum B average or equivalent. Applications sent to Ringette Canada must be received in their office no later than April 30 each year. CENOVUS INDIGENOUS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - $3,500

Each year, we offer scholarships for Indigenous students residing in our operating areas who are pursuing a full-time degree, diploma or certified trade. COVER GUY 8TH ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

The student must be currently enrolled, or going to be enrolled in a program at a university, college or trade school in the United States or Canada for the upcoming school year. The applicant must submit an article consisting of 500-1000 words. The article must be in and around the applicant's experience with hot tubs, backyard experiences, how hot tubs improve life, etc.

DALTON CAMP AWARD - $10,000

The Dalton Camp Award is a $10,000 prize for the best essay on the link between media and democracy, presented annually by FRIENDS of Canadian Broadcasting. FRIENDS launched the award in 2002 to honour the memory of Dalton Camp, a distinguished commentator on Canadian public affairs. In 2020, FRIENDS is pleased to announce a second prize of $2,500 to the best essay submitted by a student journalist.  Applications open September and the deadline is early January. DAVE DONLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - 2 of $7,500

The scholarship is open to post-secondary students who have been accepted or are enrolled in an Information Technology or Computer Science program anywhere in Canada. Students must demonstrate a passion for information technology or computer programming, demonstrate the ability to problem solve through critical thinking and demonstrate an enthusiasm to help others.

This scholarship has been temporarily suspended.  

DCCI SCHOLARSHIP FOR CANADIAN STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES - $1,000

The scholarship will be awarded to a Canadian high school student with a documented disability who is pursuing post-secondary education in the field of study in health care, criminal justice or community & social services at an accredited Canadian institution for the upcoming academic year.

To apply, submit an original essay of 500-700 words with the following topic: “How your disability shaped your decision to study the program you chose.”

The following documents must be provided for consideration:

Proof of graduating high school in the current school year.

Proof of Fall 2021 acceptance to an accredited post-secondary institution (proof or registration to health care, criminal justice or community & social services studies will be required before scholarship is awarded).

Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residency

Documented proof of disability.

DICK MARTIN SCHOLARSHIP - $3,000

Eligibility: Any student enrolled, either full-time or part-time, in an occupational health and safety (OHS) related course or program at an accredited Canadian college or university leading to a certificate, diploma or degree in OHS. Programs include mine safety, occupational or industrial health and safety, industrial hygiene, safety management or other related safety program.  https://www.ccohs.ca/scholarship/  Deadline January 31st of each year.

ENERGYRATES.CA SCHOLARSHIP - $500

To be considered for the scholarship, you must write an essay, no more than 500 words in length, telling where you see the future of the energy industry.

1. Applicants must be enrolled in an American or Canadian post-secondary educational institution, or planning to enroll in such an institution within the following calendar year.

2. The subject of the essay must fall within the parameters described on the web site.

3. The essay must be written in English or French, and have a length of no more than 500 words (not including title, applicant name, etc).

4. The winner of the scholarship grants EnergyRates.Ca non-exclusive publication rights to their essay, so that we can feature their winning essay on our scholarship site.

ETHEL BOYCE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - $1000 to each 1 female, 1 male

This award is given annually to a female and a male recipient. The award winners are expected to exhibit leadership traits and skills in softball. The award is meant to help defray the costs of education and/or playing softball.

To qualify for this award the applicant must be:

• registered with a provincial/territorial association

• a resident of the province or territory

• in attendance at a recognized Canadian post secondary educational institution, or plan on attending one in the following year

EXPLORE SECOND LANGUAGE SPRING-SUMMER PROGRAM - $2,800

This is a 5 week intensive language immersion course. To be eligible to apply, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (those studying in Canada on a student visa are not eligible), be at least in grade 11 during the preceding year, have been a full-time student for at least one term during the current school year.   As long as your application is submitted on or before February 7 of each year, it will be accepted for review. FRASER INSTITUTE STUDENT ESSAY CONTEST - $1,500, $1,000 and $500

Essay Contest -- Showcase your ideas on public policy and the role of markets by entering our essay competition. $9,000 in cash prizes will be awarded with $3,000 of this designated just for high school students! Winning essays may be published in Fraser Institute journals and authors will have the opportunity to experience the peer review process. Essay topics change each year.

FUTURE MASTERFEEDER SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

Who is eligible: Canadian individuals aged 17 to 19 who are pursuing post-secondary education in agriculture.

A scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to the winning applicant that can demonstrate their passion and potential through an essay about what they hope to achieve for the future of food production or other ag-related pursuits through their education.

GIRL GUIDES OF CANADA SCHOLARSHIPS - Various amounts

GOLF CANADA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS - Various Amounts

Golf Canada Foundation encourages the athletic and academic careers of promising Canadian golfers and students of the industry by offering financial assistance through scholarships and awards. All scholarship applicants must be attending, or have been accepted at, a Canadian university or college with a golf program recognized by Golf Canada Foundation. HAYWOOD HUNT & ASSOCIATES SCHOLARSHIP - $1,250

Haywood Hunt: We believe that working hard and striving to be the best you can be is vital to success in business and in life. We also understand and remember the financial strains that seeking a higher education can place on individuals. That’s why we’ve created our annual scholarship available to all Canadian college and university students, in order to make things a little easier along the way.

Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or other legal standing that allows study in Canada and accepted or enrolled in a Canadian college or university. To apply: Write a 500-1000 word essay that expresses your ideas about a specific topic (there is a different topic each year). HORATIO ALGER CANADIAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM -  160 scholarships of $5,000

Criteria: Plans to enter post secondary no later than the fall following graduation, strong commitment to pursuing and completing a degree at an accredited post-secondary institution in Canada, critical financial need (family income of $65,000 or less), involvement in co-curricular and community activities and a minimum grade percentage of 65.   Apply online at: https://www.horatioalger.ca/en/scholarships. HORATIO ALGER CANADIAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM -  10 scholarships of $10,000

Criteria: Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited university; Prove critical financial need ($65,000 or less annual net income per family is required); Demonstrate desire and ability to be entrepreneurial in a chosen field; Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities; Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity  Apply online at: https://horatioalger.ca/en/scholarships/about-our-scholarships-programs/national-scholarships/. HUSKY ENERGY ABORIGINAL EDUCATION AWARDS - $5,000 & $3,500

Three scholarships of $5,000 for university programs, for up to 4 years and two scholarships of $3,500 for College or Technical Institute programs, for up to two years.

Husky Energy awards these bursaries to Aboriginal students who strive to achieve greater career success by pursuing education. Applicant must be:

• Canadian citizen of Aboriginal ancestry

• In need of financial assistance

• Affiliated with a community in close proximity to Husky operations

IWSH ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000, $750 or $500

Applicants must write an essay (800-1600 words) on a different topic each year, related to the crucial importance of plumbing in today's world . JEREMY DIAS SCHOLARSHIP  - $1,000

The Jeremy Dias Scholarship seeks to recognize a youth that has taken initiative in addressing discrimination in their school or community. Applicants must be Canadian citizens/residents; and must be a high school  student entering accredited post-secondary institutions, or students currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution. JOB-APPLICATIONS.CA WORKING PARENT COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000

Job-Applications.ca is offering a college scholarship designed to benefit working parents in Canada who are pursuing post-secondary education.  

To be eligible, you must: 

Be a full or part-time student who is in an accredited Canadian post-secondary educational institution (including, but not limited to, college, university or trade school, or similarly accredited program) with a current cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher at that institution; have worked an average of at least twelve (12) hours for each of the previous four (4) weeks at the time of applying, be a residential parent of at least one minor child, be  a legal resident of Canada, be currently enrolled and furthering his or her education at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution or program, be eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of applying; and complete and submit the official Application form within the relevant periods for the periodic scholarships to be awarded. www.job-applications.ca/scholarships/  Deadline beginning of December each year.

JOHN EVANS ENGINEERING ENTRANCE AWARD FOR WOMEN - $5,000

For women entering the field of Engineering. Recipients are selected based on their enthusiasm for engineering, their involvement in volunteer activities, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. 'KIN CANADA' HAL ROGERS ENDOWMENT FUND - 30 of $1,000

Financial assistance is available to students in their quest for higher learning at a recognized university, community college, technical institute, or other post-secondary institute for advanced education. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.

Must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, and must be openly “out” in the LGBT community, must provide official proof of acceptance as a first year, full-time, undergraduate student, majoring in a STEM program at the University of Alberta, should be an active member of the LGBT community. LECLAIR DECOR DESIGN EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP - $10,000

LORAN AWARDS - up to $100,000 over 4 years

Loran Award: the country’s most comprehensive merit-based undergraduate award, valued at $100,000 over four years. The LORAN will now have a single application process, as opposed to the previous dual system of school sponsorship and the direct pool. Nelson Civic Leadership Scholarships support community-minded student leaders in achieving their educational goals. These Awards are now open to Aboriginal youth in grades 11 & 12. Sixteen individual bursaries of $1000 given to Western Canadian Grade 12 students based on an essay. STEAM Horizon Awards recipients will have inspiring achievements in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. TD SCHOLARSHIPS FOR  COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP - Up to $70,000 over 4 years

Twenty TD Scholarships for Community Leadership are awarded to students in their last year of high school or CEGEP (in Quebec) who have demonstrated leadership in improving their community. Each scholarship has a value of up to $70,000 and includes:

VIMY PILGRIMAGE AWARD: One Week of Study Abroad

The Vimy Pilgrimage Award consists of a fully funded week-long educational program in Belgium and France to study Canada’s tremendous First World War effort. The program, scheduled for November, is offered by the Vimy Foundation and features daily visits to important First World War sites including museums, cemeteries, and historic battlefields. A total of 20 students will be selected for each program. Applicants are required to submit a 500 word essay describing their volunteer work; a 500-750 word biography of, and tribute to, a solider or nursing sister; a 500 word motivation letter; a resume detailing their relevant experiences; and a reference letter from a teacher, guidance counselor or principal, service club, volunteer organization, etc. In choosing award winners, the Award Committee will take into consideration all elements submitted for the application with special emphasis placed on the applicant’s volunteer work/service to their communities.
