CREATE THE BOX : A STEP BY STEP GUIDE

STEP 01

Divide the shoebox into three compartments; dining room, living room and bedroom. Create suitable settings representing the story by drawing on or printing out the backdrop pictures. You can use glue or tape to secure the images onto the box.

STEP 02

Print or draw images of Goldilocks, the Three Bears, and other relevant props on paper. Cut out the images or props with scissors. You could use props to represent the other important objects in the story, like bowls and chairs. 

STEP 03

Arrange the props and cut-outs inside the box to create the story scene. Place the Three Bears' house on one side of the box and the bigger props outside of the box. You can now start the storytelling session!

START THE ACTIVITY

1. The teacher starts the activity by narrating the tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears using a story box.

Storytelling TECHNIQUE

The narration for the retelling of this famous universal tale uses the Monomyth technique as it tells the journey of Goldilocks in learning to respect others' boundaries. She journeys into the unknown - the three bears' house and returns home with newfound wisdom.

✿  Please note that the tale may differ from its original narration as the author has adapted the story to accommodate the activity and the level of pupils in the primary ESL classroom. 

2. Divide the class into small groups.

3. The teacher gives each group a strip of comic paper and asks them to illustrate it based on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This will help them practice their writing skills and promote creativity.

4. Ask the pupils to retell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in their own words using their comic strips. The teacher should encourage the rest of the class to ask questions about the story and the characters.

5. Teacher ends the activity by encouraging encourage the pupils to use story boxes in future storytelling sessions.
