Types of Squash

Acorn

Most often baked, the moist, orange inside of this squash is full of fiber.

Butternut

This large squash is usually baked, and its shell is easy to remove.

Calabaza

Grown in the tropics, this squash is often used in stews and cakes.

Carnival

These colorful squash can be used for cooking. People also use them to decorate in fall.

Delicata

Because of its creamy flavor, this squash is also known as sweet potato squash.

Hubbard

These squash range from grayish blue to orange. They weigh 8 to 20 pounds and are best pureed.

Kabocha

This squash comes from Japan. It can be baked, steamed, or used in soup.

Pumpkin

Pumpkins are used in soups, breads, and pancakes. And, of course, they can be carved for Halloween.

Spaghetti

When cooked, the flesh of this squash separates into tasty, spaghetti-like strands.
