The academic year is divided into four terms, each being about 10 weeks long (including breaks if any).
Before the start of each term, we bring all students together for vibrant event series called Discovery Week. With 20+ enrichment activities available across 6 days, you can develop your skills, dedicate time for your project, attend Meet the Expert sessions and connect with the wider community of Engame.
As the term officially starts, you'll focus on your two core program elements: attending your Freshman Workshop and your termly Mentoring sessions. During term time, we'll also offer Field Trips and various student-led and community events (see under Student life) to delve deeper into various interests and build relationships with students from other years.
Discovery Week sessions and term-time events are sign-up based and will be announced on Classroom. We encourage you to participate in as many of them as you can, experience new things, try yourself in different situations, and make valuable connections!

Core program in Freshman Year
The focus of Freshman Workshops is on developing skills for cooperation and communication, engaging our creativity and practising speaking and presenting in front of a group. You'll work on a particular topic throughout each term.
Schedule: Saturday 10:00-11:30
Format: Small group sessions
Number of sessions: 6 sessions per term plus Freshers' Fair
Length: Workshops last for 90 minutes
Term 1-3:
A Fresh Start on Herta - you'll work together to solve complex problems and develop a sustainable, functioning society on a new planet
Foodpreneurs - you'll be challenged to create a new startup restaurant from scratch, write a business plan and pitch your idea to investors
Newsroom - you'll be working on a newsworthy topic, researching various sources and writing an opinion article for a newspaper called Tomorrow's World
Term 4: You in University
You in University is a series of workshops focusing on some important academic and 21st century skills. You will practice academic essay writing, reading complex texts, and research. Regularly working in groups, you’ll gain experience in discussing and debating issues, and presenting your thoughts and ideas to the class.
As part of the workshops, your group will create a project centred around the main theme of each term, and you'll present your project at the Freshers' Fair, a term-closing celebratory event with all Freshman students invited.
Format: Group work during class
Freshers' Fair: Same day/time as your core workshop (the week after your last class)
Throughout the year, you'll stay in the same group and be taught by same teacher, allowing you to get to know each other very well, to develop deeper connections, and to explore different aspects of working together. To aid this process, you'll meet your main teacher once in each term in a one-to-one setting to discuss your learning experience, and make sure that you make the most of it both academically and personally.
Format: One-on-one sessions
Length: 45 minutes per term
Registration: Agree on time and platform via email with your teacher
In Freshman year you will have the opportunity to complete a project - a full cycle of planning and implementing one. Read our dedicated Project Page for a full description of what an Engame project is and what support you can receive through the process. Once you decide to embark on an Engame project, be sure to register for a Project Kick-off session during Discovery Week in term 1 or 3, to help you get started.
Your project is a great opportunity to experiment with a question or topic you're interested in, develop useful skills, and it can - as it often does for Engamers - feature in your uni application further down the line!
