Week 7
Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Finished manufacturing Design 1. Vertical Stabilization with human intervention was achieved. New motors/servo have been purchased. Design 2 almost finished manufacturing.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Final Report draft updated
All purchases were made and all components have been received.
Finished manufacturing design 1, started testing. Vertical stabilization was achieved with human intervention
New motor and servo was purchased.
Design 2 made progress with manufacturing, with slider and encoder mount completed
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Design improved frame/mount for new motor: Jack, Paul
Finish manufacturing of finalized scotch yoke design: Paul, Allyson, Wei, Jack
Assemble manufactured Parts, scotch yoke : Paul, Allyson, Wei, Jack
Finalize arduino code to test servo/motor: Wei
Find way to mount the encoder onto design 1: Allyson
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Sponsor was impressed with the finalized design 1.
He wants us to start working on increasing the frequency as much as we can (without breaking the structure) and put together the hybrid control part.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
In-Person, 5/8:
Had comments on the final report draft. These were addressed and fixed in the revised version of the draft.
Sinusoid seems like a reasonable fit, and should be ok, but discuss with the sponsor to confirm. After discussion, the sponsor came to the same conclusion.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
No Presentations feedback received.
Peer reviews received and considered.
Risks and Areas of Concern
Temporary mounting system (clamps) may not be stable enough, causing the machine to walk.
Vibration of the mechanism could cause fatigue and noise. Screws also walked out of the design, and will likely need loctite.
A press fit popped out during testing. Is this an acceptable way to hold in parts under vibration?
Design 2 has the possibility to be overconstrained. A better rail mounting system must still be designed.
