Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
One or two sentences to describe your project status.
The preliminary design phase of the project has been completed for the moving mechanisms but not the frame. Rough analysis of the mechanisms has been completed via Solidworks, but hand calculations still need to be done.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Your status of last week's goal. If you did not succeed, explain how you are going to recover it, or it is not a problem any more.
Rough simulations and analysis were conducted on all moving components of the design. Verification of these simulations is still needed due to some unexpected results. This can be done with hand calculations, and using other simulation softwares.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Be specific on each goal and have the teammate's name after it. So that the instructor could better understand the project progress and giving the progress report grades.
Verify simulation results by doing hand calculations: Paul, Allyson, Wei, Jack
Decide on overall design to pursue: Paul, Allyson, Wei, Jack
Create finalized CAD that can be used for manufacturing: Jack, Allyson
Create toolpaths for design: Paul
Design webpage layout: Wei
Purchase components from McMaster-Carr: Jack
Purchase motors: Allyson
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
You should be meeting your sponsor once a week and take notes during the meeting
In-Person, 3/15: The sponsor wanted us to simulate our designs to see of they could function. By creating CAD for our designs and using Solidworks, these simulations were made.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
To remind the instructor of last meeting.
In-Person, 3/16: The instructor agreed that simulation was an appropriate way to approach design selection and that we should calculate the g’s experienced by our design. This was done via Solidworks.
In-Person, 3/16: We should use a roller bearing design instead of a simple sliding fit to reduce friction. This was done in CAD before simulating.
In-Person, 3/16: We should research voice coil motors. After calling a voice coil motor manufacturer, it became apparent that these would not be powerful enough to function properly.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Only applicable after a presentation.
Risks and Areas of Concern
The main risk and concern that prevent you from accomplish your goal. Try not to put minor concerns in here.
Extreme g-forces being experienced by the pendulum causing damage.
Motors being able to generate enough force at a high enough frequency for the design to emulate the simulations.
Purchasing obscure high precision components.
Resources or Information Required but not Available
List them here and the instructor will try to help you.
