Diagram of oscillation generation. As the flywheel disk rotates, the pin has two components of motion. The horizontal component translates a part that is free to move side to side. The vertical component is captured by a part constrained to move vertically which is attached to the pendulum. This way, the rotational motion of the flywheel is converted into linear motion of the pendulum.
