Week 5 Accomplishments:
FEA files from Solar Turbines engineeer, Jennifer Jamarillo, were received for access. Force required for a 25% gasket deformation per an ASTM manufacturer standard was calculated for foam gaskets we plan on testing. Test rig drawings were finalized and submitted to our sponsors for their approval. We went over a pugh chart with our sponsors to decide which clamp(s) would be best to pursue. Ultimately, we successfully decided to pursue the undermount and latch style toggle clamp.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Due by sponsor meeting on Wednesdays.
Develop an FEA model in ANSYS for our test rig to ultimately translate into the actual ancillary flange.
Submit order for parts.
Submit order for metal and deliver to machine shop for manufacturing.
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
In Person (via Microsoft Teams):
Test rig platform drawings approved and ready for manufacturing.
Undermount toggle clamp is approved and ideally they'd like to pursue the latch style clamp for the better locking mechanism.
Actions to take: Order all components necessary.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
In person (via zoom):
Work out an ANSYS simulation the best you can on student version. Then
Send out the test rig platform to manufacture so that testing can begin.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)

Risks and Areas of Concern
ANSYS student version has it's limitations on what simulations can be modeled.
Given the design of the sheet metal from our test rig platform, we weill not be able to accurately simulate the behavior of the structural steel on the acutal flange. This means that our test rig will provide more of a verification on how clamps are quicker to connect and disconnect compared to bolts.
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Hyperelastic properties and sample data for some gaskets we'd like to simulate in ANSYS.
