• • Ensure the smooth pressing and horizontal presser (Guanhao Fu)

  • Edit the Arduino control code for pressing and slide moving (Yi Cui)

  • Design and build a straw cutter for straight cutting edge (Lumei Xue)

  • Research for appropriate high friction material to keep the slide in position (Ruiqi Wang)

  • Design and build better distance adjusting mechanism of the straw stopper (Yuhui Shen)

• • The solenoid might not be the best option because we need to control the current

  • We cannot control displacement and force at the same time.

    • Spring could be used to control force

    • Controllable force for the first stroke.

  • Use a parallel flexure to prevent tilting or use linear bearings for constraining

  • Use computer interface (ex. Labview, matlab) rather than a potentiometer. Compile the script to prevent accidental alterations.

  • Investigate the cause of vibration and noise at high speed

• • Slide fell off during smearing due to insufficient friction between the slide and the holder (plan to replace the magnetic tape with rubber sheet for experiment)
