156B Week 6

Overview Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.

• • Finished building the prototype

  • Trying to improve the pressing mechanism

Accomplishments from Previous Week

• • Got the pinion working by reaming the hole

  • Redesigned the way to constrain rack and pinion (I-beam was used)

  • Made the distance between the straw stopper and the straw dispenser adjustable.

  • Improved the slide holder (There will be no blood residue on it). Magnetic tape was used to increase friction.

  • Tested the linear solenoid

Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.

• • Setting up Oled screen to change the parameters more explicitly--Yi Cui

  • Fix the restriction problem of the rack -- Guanhao Fu, Yuhui Shen

  • Find a better way to adjust the distance of the straw stopper and the straw box -- Lumei Xue, Ruiqi Wang

  • We may reconsider using spring in the straw stopper design

  • We need to take various straw diameter into account

    • The distance between the straw stopper and straw dispenser is adjustable

• • Some of them were concerned about if the tests were valid without constant force and with the vibrations.

  • If the fixture was constrained better, the high speed smear may still be good and it will save time (money)

• • Solenoid can’t push the straw down to the disposal box

  • The constriction of the rack needs testing
