Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Reviewed several design ideas with sponsor for nozzle and manifold designs
Will 3D print prototypes ASAP to test on the scope
Gas distribution test is currently planned for next Tuesday, maybe earlier if we can get time on the scope.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
4 prototype designs were created in Solidworks
2 Prong Manifold Design
Detachable Manifold
Half-moon Manifold
Swappable Clamp Design
Test nozzles for gas distribution test are cut and ready.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
3D print all nozzle and manifold prototypes - Edwin
Refining CAD models - Kuanren(William)
Conduct gas distribution experiment and analyze results - Dylan and Layton
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Sponsor: Goal is to quickly prototype as many different nozzles as possible
Reaction: focus will be to 3D print all possible designs (small pieces so cost is not an issue)
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Instructor: use all available space to minimize strain on components
Reaction: designs will reflect this consideration
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
N/A
Risks and Areas of Concern
3D printed pieces for nozzle and anker might be too fragile
3D printer uses proprietary materials
May not be vacuum compatible
Not conductive
Sealant or glue might need to be used to assist with nozzle attachment
Carbon coating for non-conductive material can be easily scraped off
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Still waiting on scope availability in order to test gas flow with prototypes
Some proprietary plastics from high end 3D printers have limited material information online (e.g. outgassing data), so we have to test through trial and error.
