MAE 156B: Powered Cabinet Mover Project
Summary:
The powered cabinet mover is designed to safely and effectively transport Teradata's server cabinets within their buildings with the use of one or two employees. There are several size and flooring constraints placed on the moving unit. The powered cabinet mover can travel over asphalt, concrete, tile, ramps, and aluminum thresholds. The cabinet mover can also fit through doorways and elevators within Teradata. The final design solution chosen consists of a mixture of ready-made components and custom-made parts.
How it works
This modified pallet truck design allows for very simple operation. The cabinet is rolled onto the platform, secured to the back brace using straps, raised enough to allow for ground clearance, and driven away.

Requirements and Constraints:
There were several size and flooring constraints placed on the moving unit. The cabinet mover travels over asphalt, carpet, tile, concrete, and aluminum thresholds, and must fit in doorways and elevators, as well as travel over a ramp. The table below summarizes the requirements of the powered cabinet mover.
Summary of Performance Results:
67'' long, 35.7'' wide, and 82'' tall when loaded with a cabinet
Fits within 38'' wide doorway and 69'' long elevator
Lifts 4.7 inches.
5 seconds to raise and 4 seconds to lower a loaded truck.
Travels over concrete, asphalt, carpet, aluminum thresholds, and ramp
May chip tile that it travels over
Can carry a fully loaded cabinet (2200 lbs)
