The frequent pattern of the broad plethora of rhetorical devices Larson uses, such as this quote's exemplification, allusion (ref. to the distinctive American steel industry), and alliteration, conveys an authoritative tone that mimics the inventiveness of 1880s Chicago Root & Burnham's architectural genius as the creators of the modern American - and now, worldwide - skyscraper, both to support the claim of America (USA) as a new nation full of, and producing, its own brand of genius, and to achieve the purpose of dazzling & making readers investigate the cause(s) of that genius."
