Sankofa (pronounced SAHN-koh-fah) is a principle rooted in the Twi language of Ghana, symbolizing the importance of looking back to reclaim valuable lessons from the past to inform and guide the future. Representedby an adinkra symbol of a bird with its head turned backward while holding an egg, Sankofa reflects the act of retrieving the knowledge and cultural treasures left behind.
