Interested in Applying for Cohort 3 in January 2026?
IYIP is designed to offer more than just international work experience—it provides a transformative journey that enhances both personal and professional growth. Through a combination of real-world challenges, cultural immersion, hands-on work with development organizations and the completion of research tasks, and community engagement, interns develop essential skills that will shape their careers and future contributions.
The challenges we know interns will have the opportunity to navigate and the supportive team that will be at their side as they do, are just one way we hope to enhance the skills for success that Employment Canada identifies as key to helping cross some of the divides mentioned earlier.
The table below outlines the key program outcomes and how various aspects of the internship experience contribute to them.
Whether building resilience, expanding professional networks, or gaining clarity on career goals, each element of the program is intentionally designed to prepare interns for success in both their personal and professional lives.
IYIP involves several structured training programs to support interns both prior to, during, and after their placements:
Global Citizenship Training is delivered online and in a self-paced format a month before departure.
Pre-Departure Training is in-person and takes place in the 5 days up to the Cohort's departure.
Acclimatization Training is delivered for the first week of interns' stays in their host country.
Reintegration Training is conducted asynchronously at the end of each Cohort.
For more information on the training and support provided to IYIP interns in pursuit of these outcomes, see the IYIP Training Outline.
