This project uses storytelling to showcase the unique and beautiful aspects of Liberia. Too often, Liberia is absent from global conversations, and little is done to highlight its stories on the world stage. Before coming here, I didn’t know what to expect—I carried my own biases and preconceptions, especially regarding safety and development.
Since my arrival, I’ve experienced the most genuine love, kindness, and generosity from Liberians. In return, I want to share a “love letter” from Liberia through blog posts, TikTok videos, and other creative content that reveal what a hidden gem this country truly is.
My approach will combine humor, satire, and creativity to tell Liberia’s story in a relatable and engaging way. This project will also be a learning journey for me, as I continue exploring new forms of digital storytelling.
I chose this topic because I rarely see Liberia represented on the global map, and I want to contribute to changing that narrative—by sharing its rich history, resilient spirit, and the ongoing nation-building efforts following years of conflict.
Through this work, I hope to reach hundreds of people who will learn something new about Liberia, and help correct misconceptions about what this country has to offer. In July of this year, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed surprise at President Boakai’s eloquent English, a moment that reflects the persistent stereotype that Africans are uneducated or unintelligent. By creating content that celebrates Liberians’ brilliance, creativity, and humanity, I hope to challenge and change such perceptions.

Getting consent to film is a challenge I anticipate. People usually don’t feel comfortable being on a stranger’s camera. I will be respectful and ask for permission before I film
