Lets GROW in Social Emotional Learning!
Theme: Grow your confidence
Focus: Postive talk
We are discussing in classrooms what a fixed mindset is vs. a growth mindset. This also could be bubble gum brain vs. brick brain.
A Fixed Mindset (Brick Brain) is the belief that you are what you are and you can't do anything about it. This includes our intelligence, behaviors, and relationships.
A Growth Mindset (Bubble Gum Brain) is the belief that you can be more and grow. You can stretch your brain and yourself and find new strengths and empowerment that you are able to change what is not working for you.
Also, it is how we speak to ourselves:
Brick Brain Bubblegum Brain
I can't do this! I can't do it YET! (The power of Yet)
I can't make any mistakes! Mistakes help me learn!
I will never be able to do this! I will train my Brain!
I quit! I will TRY!
Why even Try?! This looks hard but I will try!
How can your family practice?
We are also discussing positive coping skills with testing! We will discuss that testing is just reviewing and sometimes we have stress that goes with that. We will discuss test taking strategies and skills. I want to empower students with testing power!
Stress is our friend. If we didn't have amounts of stress we would never perform, wake up in the morning, finish assignments, and so on. Too much stress that is continually happening through out the day and week is concerning and I would love to help your student with managing that.
Also, we will be talking about HYGIENE! HYGIENE IS IMPORTANT! This independent skill of taking care on oneself is a builder in ones confidence.
What Ideas can you share with your child at home on these topics?
