Lets Grow in Social Emotional Learning!
Look what we are up to in JANUARY!!!
THEME: Grow in Postiitvity
FOCUS: GOAL SETTING/INTEGRITY
WELCOME BACK! Your student will start to be aware of goals! How do we set goals? What are the steps to set goals? Why are Goals so important?
Having goals is a good way to focus attention on the things that are important. It allows us to create a vision of how we would like our life to be. When we have a goal, we tend to increase the amount of time and effort we spend on an activity, and develop effective strategies to achieve that goal.
HOW CAN YOU SET GOALS AS A FAMILY! REMEMBER.... The lessons and skills we create are made as we reach our goal. That's why I LOVE GOALS!! We find out who we are and what we are capable of while moving toward to our goal! YEA!
This month are theme is being POSITIVE! There is negative and positive around us always. We choose to see the good in things or the bad in things. We put focus on that. They are both there, What are you choosing to see? We also will discuss INTEGRITY! What is it? What does it look like in our three environments (Peers, Home, and School) and how do we show it. As a family you can talk about how your family practices these two focused words. What discussions can you create to discuss Positivity and Integrity?
We will end the month with Resilience. We will talk about what it is? Why it is a super Power and how do we get it? Are you as a family finding opportunities to talk about resiliency, what that looks like, and why it is so important. Life is unfair sometime, we get hurt sometime, we have challenges in our life sometime. We can only control what we can control. Students will learn this concept in our lesson. How can we be more resilient using skills to get through them? As a family you can further discuss this with your children. What coping skills are you and your family practicing. Again, ask your student about the Meta Moment and how that helps us regulate our emotions so that we can make better decisions. (Again you can go tab link on the home page AND GO TO FAMILY TOOLS OR CLICK BELOW and learn about the Meta Moment or you can watch the video at the bottom of this page).
Resilience is the process and outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences, especially through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility and adjustment to external and internal demands.
Perseverance is continued effort to do or achieve something, even when this is difficult or takes a long time: ex. It took a lot of patience and perseverance for all sides to reach an agreement.
Are persistence and resilience the same thing?
While persistence will keep you going when the going's tough, resilience will help you get back up when you are knocked off course. They're both aspects of the same drive to move forward.
