Emanuel empowers students to learn about themselves, to observe the world around them with empathy, and to acquire a set of skills which will transform them into valued, constructive and compassionate members of society.

Sonia has been awarded Dux four times, an achievement of which she is very proud. However, it her love of writing which is a stand out, coming second in the International Mikolot Public Speaking competition and winning numerous Emanuel Writer of the Year awards.

Sonia is grateful to her teachers for helping her to believe in herself, be an individual and stand out from the crowd. Sonia hopes she will be remembered for her love of writing and her participation in opportunities given to her at school to express this. Her experience as a Madricha has enabled her to explore her passion for Social Justice and resulted in her involvement with environment and community events such as Elephant Day, Earth Hour and the Women in Leadership Seminar.

She recalls her trip to Jilkminggan in Year 9 as an eye-opening experience that taught her innumerable lessons about her own privilege, and the disadvantages faced by Aboriginal people in Australia.

Sonia thanks “each and every person who has helped me become the kind of person I have always wanted to be, which will last longer than the memory of any essay mark”. Her friends and peers describe Sonia as the girl who will go on to do amazing things.
