The machine starts out with a swinging ball that collides with another ball on a platform. The second ball then rolls down a few slides and then onto some tilted platforms. After the ball travels through those, it drops into a funnel and then a chute. The ball exits the chute and rolls on another platform. The ball ends up hitting a button which triggers the cannon to explode with confetti!
Overall, I think my vision was realized with some simplifications. The biggest modification from my original idea was the spiral chute. I decided to model a straight chute with a funnel at the top instead.
Animations
I had some issues with the Maya renderer. I wish I added some more lighting and could create shadows. The rendered animation also does not have the ball hit the button at the end, but I did not have enough time to render again.
Images
Swinging Ball - The animation starts out with this ball that is swinging back and forth. It ends up colliding with the ball on the platform.
Ball on slide - Next, the ball slides down this ramp. It is an L shaped ramp, which I made so that the entire animation would not be from just the side view.
Tilted Platforms - The ball then falls down these platforms that are on a hinge into the chute.
Chute and Funnel - I made a funnel first so that it would be fairly easy to catch the ball once it fell off of the platforms. It then funnels into a cylindrical chute.
Mini Ramp - The ball lands on this ramp when coming out of the chute, guiding it to the button.
Button - The ball then ends up in this container with a button ...
Confetti - Which then triggers the confetti cannon!
