Make sure you select the correct size (small, medium, or large) to fit your face. See an AMT instructor for sample respirators before purchasing.
Consider buying a respirator with replaceable organic vapor cartridges as opposed to a maintenance free disposable cartridge respirator.
Some cartridges have a unique end-of-service-life indicator (ESLI) to help users determine when to change their cartridges in appropriate environments.
If you have a beard or mustache, you may need a full face respirator or more likely a positive pressure respirators of the hood and helmet type, and types that can be used with a continuous-flow, supplied-air respirator.
