Course Delivery:
The AMT courses will be online asynchronous courses, a web cam with microphone and a strong broadband internet connection are required for assessment in each class. Classes are delivered through a web browser (Canvas). Special Software/Equipment may be required for specific classes.
AMT 103 Basic Electricity requires a digital volt/ohm meter, soldering iron, NIDA 110E trainer (requires Internet Explorer 11 to connect), and NIDA Basic Electricity Card set (available to lease from BRCC AMT).
AMT 107 Aircraft Drawing requires Graphite Version 10 (available from Ashlar Vellum for rent).
MTH 103 Applied Technical Mathematics will require the Pearson MyMathLab access kit to complete the homework assignments.
All written quizzes and tests will be proctored through Respondus Monitor or at a previously approved (generally VCCS) test center.
Certificate Exams:
Graduates of the Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program are eligible to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Written, Oral, and Practical exams for a Mechanic’s Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings. BRCC AMT graduates have a 100% pass rate on the certification exams.
Approval:
BRCC’s Aviation Maintenance Technology Distance Education program is fully approved by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Residence in Service Region:
Space in the AMT Distance Learning Program is limited to 25 students, therefore some applicants may not be accepted even if the minimum requirements for admission are met. Priority shall be given to qualified applicants who are
Residents of the BRCC service area which includes: Harrisonburg, Staunton, Waynesboro, Augusta County, Rockingham County, and Highland County and then,
Virginia residents not having access to AMT program at their local Virginia community college, followed by
Other U.S. state or commonwealth residents.
Students from other countries.
In order to be considered a resident of the BRCC service region, applicants must have been domiciled continuously in the service region for the 12 months prior to the application deadline and must not be residents of the service region for the primary purpose of education.
