BLS Course Offerings
Basic Life Support (BLS)
The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).
Who should take this course?
BLS is geared towards prehospital providers, like EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, and in-facility hospital providers. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years. Please contact your employer to ensure that you are selecting the correct course.
What does this course teach?
High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
Important early use of an AED
Effective ventilation's using a barrier device
Importance of teams in multi rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi rescuer CPR
Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
Training Methods
Basic Life Support (BLS) is available in two different training methods – blended learning and classroom training. All BLS course options teach the same AHA science-based skills and result in the same AHA BLS Course Completion Card.
CRT 101 - BLS for Healthcare Provider

CRT 106 - Online BLS w/Skills Assessment
A "blended learning" (eLearning with hands-on session) BLS/CPR Course
Pre-Reqs: eLearning (None); Hands-On Session (eLearning Completion Certificate)
Time: Online (Varies); In-Class Hands-On Skills Assessment (1 Hour)

CRT 107 - Online BLS For PALS/ACLS Participant
This course is intended for those who are taking an ACLS and/or PALS Course because the skills assessment portion is performed during the ACLS and/or PALS Course

Format (HeartCode BLS)
Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on skills session.
HeartCode BLS Online is the online portion of BLS blended learning that will prepare students for hands-on practice and testing of BLS skills.

Instructor-led, hands-on class format reinforces skills proficiency
The BLS Instructor-led course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on High-Quality CPR and team dynamics.

Time (HeartCode BLS)
The online portion of HeartCode BLS can be completed in approximately 1 to 2 hours.
The time to complete the hands-on skills session varies from 60 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on the experience of the student.

Full BLS Provider Course takes approximately 4 hours and 40 minutes to complete, including skills practice and skills testing.
