Update #10
Dear MHS Students,
We've made it to our last full week of virtual learning! We know it hasn't been easy and we want you to know how proud we are of each and every one of you. If you have any worries about wrapping up your school work this week please let us know.
Be sure to check out the ideas below about how you can spend your summer. Although we are all ready for things to go back to normal, it's important to remember that we will never get this time back. Take time this summer to engage in the activities you typically say you never have time for. There is a lot happening in our world and now is the time for us all to read, self reflect, support each other, and do better.
We care deeply about all of you and are here if you want to talk.
Sincerely,
The MHS Counselors
Mrs. Worthley, Mrs. Mahoney, Mrs. Lodge, Mrs. Padden, Mr. Ormberg, & Mr. Becker

Regardless of what your goals are, it is important to speak with your guidance counselor to discuss the most appropriate post-secondary plan for you.

Students are talking about race and racism. Social emotional skills can help keep those discussions civil and empathic. Whether students are talking with teachers, peers, family members, and community members, these SEL skills are necessary for understanding and managing emotions, listening, feeling and showing empathy for others, and making thoughtful, responsible decisions. It’s not hard to see how SEL skills might be helpful in difficult discussions. Here are three skills you can apply to conversations about race and racism with students, staff, and community members:
Self-awareness: Acknowledging implicit bias
Self-management: Navigating strong emotions
Social awareness: Cultivating a reflective community
By paying attention to the skills of self-awareness, self-management, and social awareness, we are more likely to cultivate environments where we can actively practice relationship skills and responsible decision-making—the fundamental elements and outcomes of civil discourse.
Challenge Success and Riverside Trauma Center have posted resources to learn about historical trauma, systemic oppression, and racism.
