In classes one of the things we see a lot as a professors is that many of you develop a relationship with the professor, but not so much one with each other. That's such a lost opportunity, especially when we're studying leadership, which by it's very nature requires people to act as a group or team. So that's why this is the method to gain extra credit in this class - We want to encourage making our classes more of a learning community, a bit more like we would be in the workplace (when we are all pursuing parallel purposes in a shared space), etc.
If you are not sure what an OCB is, it’s an acronym that stands for Organizational Citizenship Behaviors. In normal speak, behaviors become OCB's when someone goes above and beyond in a helpful way that benefits the organization (our class) and contributes to effectiveness. There are several ways to earn these, which are noted in the class when they are available.
OCB credit is available for the ENGAGEMENT, RESUMES and FINAL PAPER portions of your grade in this class:
ENGAGEMENT equals 22 points of your final grade. You may earn up to 4 points of OCB credit for this section.
RESUMES equals 16 points of your final grade. You may earn up to 2 points of OCB credit for this section.
FINAL PAPER equals 15 points of your final grade. You may earn up to 1 point of OCB credit for this section if you have you have your paper reviewed by ThinkTank.
Here are a few ideas of things you could do that would count as OCB's for your class.
Organizing and leading a Reading Group to lower the individual burdens on all students involved
Organizing and leading a Writing Group to help everyone get top marks on their project memos, reading recaps, etc.
Proofreading the course web site and providing feedback to the Instructor.
