This statistics course will be taught mainly from a data-analysis perspective. The goal is to enable students to understand the method/result sections of research papers, and also do their own data analysis for research.
The first class meeting will be from noon – 3:00 pm on Aug 20 in room 323. For the remainder of the semester, class will meet at a computer lab in ECE 229 from noon to 3:00pm. SPSS and Excel will be the major software packages used. Be sure you have copies of the software on your laptops.

Grades will be determined based on the class participation, homework, midterm, and final exam. The percentage allocation of grade is:
Class Participation 10%
Homework 30%
Midterm 30%
Final Exam 30%
In order to make sure that you understand the material and practice what you have learned in the class, all the tasks involved in the class are important. The purpose of the class participation and homework is to get familiar with the material. The answers do not need to be extensive, but you need to show your understanding of the material. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any question. The final exam will be on everything related to this course. Both the midterm and final exams will be take-home exams.
