In a week where we've been asking children to consider "letting your light shine" we've also spent some time thinking about all of the light festivals at this time of year.
Many of the classes have discussed Bonfire Night, and our picture news next week will be all about the Hindu festival of Diwali.
Mr. Noble led the week with a discussion about what it means for us to "let our light shine", and how we can relate this to our RESPECT values - Responsibility, Excellence, Perseverance, Energy, Caring, Tolerance. When I ask children about which value matches our message, they often say "it's a trick question!", because letting your light shine could mean any and all of these things.
Next week our attention turns to Rememberance, and poppies will be on sale in our playground after school on Monday and Tuesday, so please do bring in petty cash to donate to the Poppy Appeal.
Wishing you all a great weekend,
Oliver Graves, Headteacher
At the heart of our school are honesty, respect and partnership. We understand that families can sometimes face challenges or difficult circumstances. What matters most is that we work together openly and honestly so that we can provide the best possible support for every child.
Good attendance is one of the most important factors in a child's success at school. Every lesson, every day and every shared experience contributes to children's learning, confidence, friendships and sense of belonging. While occasional illness is unavoidable, frequent absence can quickly add up and make it harder for children to keep pace with their learning and feel fully connected to school life.
As we begin Autumn 2, we ask all families to support us by:
Ensuring children attend school every day unless they are genuinely unwell.
Booking holidays and family trips outside of term time wherever possible.
Communicating openly with school if there are difficulties affecting attendance.
Contacting the school promptly when a child is absent.
We are proud of the strong relationships we have with our families and look forward to continuing to work together to ensure every child has the best possible opportunity to thrive.
Thank you for your continued support.

The Year 6 children benefitted from spending some time with the Inside Out Team, who will be providing our Summer residential. They enjoyed building a fire and learning about prehistoric artefacts such as bones, spears and horns.
Many of you will be aware that there has been a huge amount of housing and development in North Ely. Some of you may live in the first of these new homes. In the next few years we expect over two-thousand new houses to be built in our area, and we hope that we can support an emerging community where individuals and families can flourish.
The school are working alongside St Mary's Church to gather together people who share a vision of a flourishing community. This will include the school and church, as well as other local organisations and residents like you! This group will be able to work with land-owners, developers and the council as new homes are planned and delivered.
If you are interested in being involved, or would just like to meet to discuss your hopes for our community, please contact Rev Matthew (matthew.creber@stmarysely.org), who would love to catch up over a cuppa.
