Technology Education is a part of New York State’s Education Curriculum for the Middle School Level. Technology is defined by the New York State Technology and Engineering Education Association as “Technology - Human innovation in action that involves the generation of knowledge and processes to develop systems that solve problems and extend human capabilities; the process by humans to modify nature to meet their needs and wants.”

The Technology Education program at Elwood Middle School aims to provide students with a better understanding of the world around us through a range of learning styles including classroom lessons, discussion, research, and hands-on activities which follow the New York State Standards for Math, Science, and Technology. Students will be required to use and develop problem solving and critical thinking skills throughout the course.

The course will touch on many different aspects of technology. Students will design, engineer, and construct projects in order to receive the most complete education possible for each topic. Several topics that may be covered throughout this course include; woodworking, engineering, design, renewable energies, structures, robotics, flight, aerodynamics, electricity, mechanical drawing, historical technologies, and future technologies.
