Our Host School
The 2024 ELMLE Fall Leadership Retreat will be hosted at the American Overseas School of Rome in Italy. Participants will have the opportunity to learn alongside educators on the picturesque and green AOSR campus.
Our Host Hotel The Best Western Hotel Astrid
We are pleased to offer you an excellent hotel in the northern part of the historic center, Hotel Astrid, a Best Western hotel situated along the Lungotevere (road along the Tiber).
The rate for a double-size room for one person is 160€ per night including wifi, breakfast and 'soft' minibar. In addition, there is a 6€ per person per night tourism tax.
To book a room held for the retreat, please call +39 (06) 323-6371, ask for Giancarlo Cioschi and specify you wish to have the AOSR RESERVATION. Bookings will be reserved by using a credit card with free cancellation up until 12:00 noon the day prior to check in.
Check in is at 14:00 and check out is at 11:00; please clarify your desired dates with Giancarlo.

Alternative and Overflow Hotels:
The Ianus Guest House bed and breakfast is located just 5 minutes walking from the AOSR campus in the Roma Nord neighborhood. Double room for single use starting at 90€ per night (minimum 2 nights), plus 6€ per person per night tourism tax. The rooms are available at this price up until 8 September 2024.
or When in Rome... there is an option to stay at a convent 15-20 minute walk from AOSR: the Villa Maria Cristina Brando. Single rooms including breakfast and the 6€ / night tourism tax are 46€. Transportation
Public Transportation:
Fiumicino's Leonardo Express runs every 15 minutes with a travel time of 32 minutes to Termini train station for 14 €. Currently there are many public transportation updates occurring to prepare for the 2025 Rome Giubileo, and as a result Metro and Tram lines are unavailable, but replaced with bus services.
To reach Hotel Astrid from Termini, there are two options: the 910 bus departing from outside of Termini in the direction of Piazza Mancini getting off at Vignola (2 minute walk to hotel), or by Metro A to Flaminio where you then board the Tram (bus) 2 and get off at Ankara (5 minute walk to hotel). Both the bus and metro require a ticket 1.50 € (100 minutes) which can be purchased at Termini or at any Tabaccheria (bar or shop indicated with a T on their sign).
Driver:
Uber has arrived in the Eternal City! Usually Uber rides are covered by taxi cars, which are also lined up outside of the terminal. Be careful with Taxis because depending on traffic, the metered fair can run high.
If you'd like a full Italian experience, you can contact Sergio Sartori on Whatsapp at +39 (328) 793-3453 for a 60€ flat fee transfer from FCO to Hotel Astrid or IANUS Guest House. Simply say you are with ELMLE and send your flight information to him (also in English) at least a week in advance.
For the Retreat:
A bus will pick up groups from the Hotel Astrid and return the group in the afternoon. If you are staying at another location, please make your way to the hotel before the pick up time. (We will include the pick up time here closer to the retreat.)
