Please note that this year there will be limited adult access to the Ellis campus.

Use one of the 4 school entrances (marked with green circles on the map):

  1. Central Ave. gate outside of the 2nd grade wing

  2. Olive Ave., students will walk under the cafeteria breezeway to enter the blacktop

  3. Olive Ave., students will enter the gate at the end of the parking lot closest to Fair Oaks Ave.

  4. Fair Oaks Ave., gate next to the field (this gate is closed by 8:30 am)

There is no drop-off or pick-up allowed in the Olive Avenue parking lot. This is for staff parking only.

School times for 2021-2022

Key school times for Ellis families:

  • Playground supervision begins at 8 AM.

  • Classes begin at 8:15 AM.

  • All gates will be locked at 8:30 AM and unlocked at dismissal.

  • Dismissal for Kindergarten is at 11:35 AM. (Kindergarten will be at half day for the first 6 weeks).

  • Dismissal for 1st to 5th grades is at 2:30 PM.

  • For K-3 grades, dismissal every Friday is at 12:45 PM.


After-school care is available at Ellis through KLAS and California Young World.

Free MEALS

All students can get breakfast and lunch at Ellis for free during the school year 2021-22.

Each student can get 2 meals per day for free. Vegetarian options are offered.

Parents do not need to sign up for the program for kids to get free meals.

The Sunnyvale School District has a meal sign-up form. Sign-up is not required during 2021-22 but is recommended.

Masks & Health Screener

Masks are required indoors for all adults and students in TK-5 (with medical exceptions).

Masks are recommended outdoors.

Mask tips: Label cloth masks with your child's name. Also, have your child keep a spare mask in their backpack.

Social distancing will be expected when masks are removed, like during eating times.

Families must complete the Ruvna daily health screener for their students. The daily screener reminder will be sent out via text and email at 7:00am daily. It must be completed before arriving on campus.

If the screener is not completed, the student will be sent to the health screener coordinator and will only return to class once the screener is completed.

Monday, August 16, 2021 at 6pm: Back to School Informational Meeting

Monday, August 9, 2021 at 6pm: The district is holding a community forum to discuss back-to-school safety and the independent study option. See details.

Sunnyvale School District is reopening all ten schools. The district is offering in-person instruction and independent study this year. There will be no live virtual classes like last year.

Campus Construction

Ellis is under construction for the next 3 or 4 years.

The school is being upgraded, with a new two-story classroom building, a multi-use building, a modular kindergarten building, and a modular daycare building.

There will be modernization of 5 existing buildings, 3 new parking and drive-through/drop-off areas, a bus drop-off zone, 2 new lunch shelters, an amphitheater/open space area, and external improvements.
