Mr. Alfred Medina – Head Band Director, Elgin Middle School
Mr. Medina is the Head Band Director at Elgin Middle School. He is a native of San Antonio, Texas. In 2004, he earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied saxophone with Harvey Pittel and performed in the Longhorn Band as well as other university concert ensembles. He began teaching at Elgin Middle School in 2021.
Mr. Medina’s teaching career began in San Antonio ISD at Rhodes Middle School in 2004, where the program earned its first Sweepstakes award at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest. He later served as an Assistant Band Director at Brackenridge High School. While working in Edgewood ISD in San Antonio, he was named Head Band Director at Kennedy High School, where the band earned its first consecutive Division I ratings at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest in 2012. He then served as Head Band Director at San Jacinto Intermediate School in Pasadena ISD, where the band also earned Division I ratings, including a UIL Sweepstakes award at the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest.
Since joining Elgin Middle School, the program has continued to grow in membership and achievement. Under his leadership, the bands have consistently earned Division I ratings at UIL Concert & Sight-Reading performances, including a UIL Sweepstakes award in 2024.
Mr. Medina’s principal instrument is the saxophone. He is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association. Outside of teaching, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, attending live concerts, and hiking.

Mr. Spencer Morris – Assistant Band Director, Elgin Middle School
Mr. Morris is entering his 8th year as a band director. He is a native of Katy, Texas, and earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Baylor University in 2015. While at Baylor, Mr. Morris studied euphonium with Dr. Kent Eshelman and performed in the Baylor University Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and the University Men’s Choir. He also served as President of the Baylor University chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, during which time the chapter doubled in size over his four years at the university.
Mr. Morris began his teaching career in the Houston area, where he spent three years leading programs that experienced success in UIL performances, school concerts, and region band achievements. He later moved to the Austin area to be closer to friends and worked at two charter schools while also teaching private low brass lessons.
Mr. Morris is proud to call Elgin Middle School his professional home and is entering his fourth year there. During his time at EMS, the band program has continued to grow and improve each year, and he looks forward to continuing that positive momentum.
In his free time, Mr. Morris enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, rock climbing, and playing video games.
