Mrs. Alana Urbano – Band Director, Elgin Intermediate School
Mrs. Urbano is a Texas music educator, conductor, composer, arranger, and clinician with over a decade of experience serving students through elementary music, band, choir, and mariachi programs. A graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Music in Composition, she also pursued graduate studies in music education at Liberty University and is Kodály Level II certified.
As a student in Title I schools on the southwest side of San Antonio, Mrs. Urbano discovered that music education could open doors, build confidence, and create opportunities that extended far beyond the classroom. That experience shaped her belief that every student deserves access to meaningful artistic opportunities regardless of their background. Throughout her career, she has worked to build programs that develop not only musicianship, but also confidence, leadership, creativity, and community. She believes the strongest educational experiences are built through collaboration and values partnerships with families, fellow educators, community organizations, and arts advocates to create opportunities that help students thrive.
A two-time Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Urbano has served as a Fine Arts Department Head, guest conductor, and clinician for organizations throughout Central Texas, including the San Antonio Chamber Winds and Austin ISD's All-City Choir. Beyond the classroom, she remains actively engaged in the music community as a performer, composer, and arranger. Her work spans marching band, concert band, orchestra, mariachi, and contemporary music, including the composition of the official fight song for Texas A&M University–San Antonio.
Mrs. Urbano believes that strong arts programs are built through community. In addition to her work as an educator, composer, and arranger, she remains active within the Central Texas mariachi community and is a proud member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Tau Beta Sigma Alumni Association.
Whether on the podium, in the classroom, or on stage, Mrs. Urbano's goal is to help students discover not only what they can achieve as musicians, but who they can become as people. Outside of music, she enjoys gardening, video games, and spending time with her husband, Reyes, and their pets, Luci, Icarus, and Heidi.
