Use the Los Rios Class Search Tool to review course options, transferability, course format and course days/times.
Counselors recommend courses in the CAL-GETC Area 3A Arts, 3B Humanities & Area 4 Social and Behavioral Sciences
Avoid courses in math, science, and English, your courses in high school are the building blocks for these classes!
These are articulated with CSU and UC and should meet general education requirements for college.
PGHS school counselors strongly recommend students consider their current course load and focus on 1 course at a time (or 2 courses MAX if course is taken in the summer semester).
Step 3: Log into your EGUSD ClassLink Portal to access your CaliforniaColleges account.
In your portal, click on the icon "CaliforniaColleges" to access your account.
Go to College at the top of your screen, click on California Community College Application and input the Los Rios Community College (LRCC) of your choice, then press blue Launch button.
Step 4: Apply to the LRCC through California Colleges.
This can take anywhere from 2-24 hours for your application to be processed.
Please screenshot your confirmation information for your records
Once processed, you should get an email with your new student ID number that starts with "w" followed by a series of number.
Follow the steps to complete your account registration by creating a password.
Step 5: Complete the Dual Enrollment Special Admit Form.
You will complete the form and sign it, it'll go to your parent/guardian to sign, your counselor will then sign it, then the Community College will approve it, all before you can register for a class.
Step 6: Complete the PGHS School Counselor Request Google Form.
This is so your counselor has a record of the course you are planning to take at Community College.
If you need any support or additional questions arise, please check out the Need Help? section on this webpage to know who to reach out to.

Here is information on high school friendly courses to take:
Check out the CAL-GETC links in Step 2
I am planning to apply to either a CSU or UC my senior, will the courses I take at community college transfer?
Make sure you are taking courses from the CAL-GETC lists provided and they should transfer! They should clearly be labeled as transferrable to a CSU &/or UC.
Will this community college credit transfer to any other universities, besides a CSU or UC?
They generally transfer to public universities, but it is recommend to check with the specific college or university to confrim how credits apply. You should always reach out to the university you're interested in to confirm.
What is the difference between Dual Enrollment and AP?
Dual Enrollment courses grant college course credit immediately upon passing, where as AP classes require passing a single, high-stakes exam at the end of the year for potential college credit.
Does this affect my high school GPA?
NO. Classes you take through Dual Enrollment will not be added to your high school transcript. This is the start of your official college transcript, and will follow you, even if you don't plan to attend community college after high school!
How much does each class cost?
Dual Enrollment courses are tuition-free for high school students! The $46 per-unit tuition fee is waived for high school students enrolled in 11 units or less. Some small campus fees may apply though.
Do I have to take courses on the actual college campus?
Not necessarily, community colleges are offering more online classes now than ever before!
What is a prerequisite?
A prerequisite is a condition which a student is required to meet before enrolling in a course
What if I fail a class?
A failing grade will go on your permanent college transcript, which could affect future college admissions and financial aid eligibility.
I have an IEP or 504 plan, what services are available to me?
Enrolled students with an IEP or 504 Plan can learn more about the array of academic accommodations and services appropriate in a college setting from DSPS, please see the website for DSPS through the campus you're enrolled with.
I am a parent, can I call the community college to inquire about the status of my child's application or grades?
No. Under Section 49061 of the Education Code, parents of community college students do not have a right to access to their child's student records, regardless of whether the student is under the age of 18. This includes Dual Enrollment Students.
