Social Awareness

Social Awareness is this month’s focus. Social Awareness is the ability to take the perspective of and empathize with others, including those from diverse backgrounds and cultures. The ability to understand social and ethical norms for behavior and to recognize family, school, and community resources and supports.

Social Awareness Family Friendly Activities:

  • Amazing Grace - a perfect read aloud for ages 4-8, this inspiring story teaches children it is okay to be different and being different does not stop you from doing what you believe in.

  • Common Humanity Meditation (Greater Good in Action) - This meditation, for tweens/teens and adults, helps build empathy toward those that are different from us.

  • Flower Activity: Supports in your life - Each family member fills in their own “flower” recognizing what supports they have in their life at home, from school, and in their community. Once each member has completed their flower you can share the flowers with one another.
