Third graders will continue to build their Spanish skills this year! They will have Spanish class 4 days a week for 20 minute sessions. Songs, games, dialogues, books and hands-on activities are wonderful ways to encourage students to practice their blossoming language skills.
Third graders are learning to read and re-enact a Mexican version of Cinderella. Tomie de Paolo wrote and illustrated "Adelita" and it is terrific! The students are practicing vocabulary, using Spanish in real-life situations, learning a dance and acting in a class play. Ask them what they like best about this unit!
Students are learning to name many different professions, as well as workplaces. They will be completing a project in which they identify what they would like to be when they grow up and where they would like to work. I always enjoy learning about the interests and dreams my students have for their futures!
Sing along with the "Profesiones" song by Rockalingua.
Watch a Flipgrid video of Anna Jane and Naomi talking about the professions that they hope to have in the future.
Watch Mackenzie and Declan talk about what they would like to be when they grow up!
Watch Simone and Joanne as they talk about their future goals!
Students are going on an imaginary trip to Mexico, Spain and Puerto Rico to celebrate the holidays! This unit is fast paced and packed full of hands-on, cooperative activities and opportunities for students to talk about what they are learning. I look forward to watching their language skills grow as they interact with each other!
Third graders are learning to talk about their community in Spanish. They are learning the names of places and the products found in each place. They can talk about when they are going to each place and why. They will also be learning to invite a friend to come with them. Stay tuned for our community project based on Spanish-speaking communities from around the world!

Third graders are off to a great start in Spanish class! We began the year by reviewing basic conversational vocabulary, such as - how to greet each other and ask and respond to personal questions. Students will make and share a project with each other as they get reacquainted. This year students will be learning to use a tool for making short videos called Flipgrid. They will record their conversations in Spanish and be able to see the growth they make as language learners throughout the year. Ask your child to show you his/her video!
