Fourth graders will continue to build their Spanish skills this year! They will have Spanish class 4 days a week for 20 minute sessions. The Spanish curriculum is based upon the units students are learning in their general education classroom. Students enjoy learning how to share their knowledge in a second language! Songs, games, dialogues, meaningful experiences, books and hands-on activities are wonderful ways to encourage students to practice their blossoming language skills.
Fourth graders are studying the country of Chile. They have taken an in-depth look at the geography of this South American country and learned about several of it's traditions. We will enjoy a special Chilean treat and play rayuela. I hope that you enjoy hearing your child share what they have learned!
Watch this video about CHILE to discover what an amazing country it is!
Students have been learning to re-tell two legends from the Aztec people of Mexico. The first legend explained how the Aztec people believed the turtle got the cracks in its shell. The second legend explains how the Aztec people got corn. Students have been practicing with each other. I am proud of their developing language skills! Stay tuned! The legends will be coming home soon.
Students have completed their study of animal adaptations in Spanish class. During this unit fourth graders learned to :
-name many animals found in Latin American countries
-identify the habitats these animals live
-describe how animals move
-describe the major characteristics of all animal groups - mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish
For their final project students choose an animal from Central or South America that they would like to have as a pet and described it. Ask your child what animal he/she chose!
Fourth graders will begin the school year by working on a project about themselves. They will review many topics throughout this unit that they learned in 1st-3rd grades. They will be sharing with their classmates their favorite food, color, school subject, what they hope to be when they grow up, and how many people they have in their family. It is always enjoyable to hear the kids speaking Spanish again! This year students will record themselves on video conversing with a classmate about their likes and dislikes in Spanish using Flipgrid. They will practice making connections to other students by posting comments in Spanish about common interests that they share. Ask your child to show you his/her video!
