First graders will continue to build their Spanish skills this year! They will have Spanish class 4 days a week for 20 minute sessions. Songs, games, dialogues, books and hands-on activities are wonderful ways to encourage students to practice their blossoming language skills.
First graders are learning to read and act out the story of The Three Bears in Spanish class. This Hispanic version of the classic story has neat twists such as the bears eating "frijoles"(beans) instead of porridge, and a fiesta where Little Bear and Black Braids dance with their families. The students had a blast acting in their class play. Click on the links below to see them perform!

First graders are learning to name the clothing that they wear in Spanish. First they learned a song identifying all of the winter gear they put on to go out into the snow. Then they practiced naming the clothes they wear each day, such as sweatshirts and tennis shoes.

First graders have been learning to name lots of new foods! They are saying which of them they eat, and which they drink. They can say if they like or dislike the foods as well. They have had a great time learning about two very different types of tortillas. The corn tortilla typical in Mexico and the egg and potato tortilla typical in Spain. Students tried both types of tortillas and will be voting soon on their favorite! Stay tuned for the results!

Students have been learning how to name items in the classroom and their backpack. In addition they are practicing polite ways to ask for things they need in Spanish. They have enjoyed learning a new song and playing a guessing game with the cards in their Spanish folder. I hope that you enjoy listening to them share their learning with you!

First graders began with a review of the vocabulary that they learned in Kindergarten. They practiced greeting each other in Spanish, expressing how they are feeling and sharing other personal information with each other. Using the calendar helps us to review numbers as well. Students have adjusted quickly to hearing Spanish again in class! They are enthusiastic language learners!
Students will also review and learn new colores, shapes and numbers 0-30. You can watch the music videos that we use in class to reinforce target vocabulary by clicking on the links below.
