This afternoon, Year 5 got into the Rio Carnival spirit and created their own carnival-inspired masked. After learning about the Rio Carnival, the children got out the glitter, feathers and sparkly sequins to make their colourful, flamboyant masks. It really bought a bit of samba spirit to Edward Francis!

Wonderful World Book Day
Wonderful World Book Day
On Thursday 5th March, it was World Book Day! The children's outfits were superb and it was great to see such a variety of book characters on show. In the morning, the children got the chance to show off their costumes in the parade and then took part in a tense World Book Day Quiz in their house teams. The day was rounded off with a fun and exciting treasure hunt which involved the children finding clues around all of upper KS2 to work out the correct code. Overall, it was an excellent, book-filled day.

As part of book week, Year 5 children planned and created their own picture book stories aimed at the youngest children in school, Reception. After researching, planning, writing and illustrating their books throughout, Year 5 got the chance to read them to an audience of excited, small children. It was lovely to see the interaction between some of the oldest and the youngest members of the school and it was a great learning experience for all. Judging by how interested the young children were, there may even be some future picture book authors in Year 5!
