And until further notice, no Pizza on Fridays

Mindful Friday -- bring a snack!

Because of the many different needs or restrictions around food in our classes, we are asking students to bring a small snack or food item to class that they can eat.

This might be, for example, an apple, a granola bar, a small bag of jubes-jubes, cut up banana slices in a container…students will be required to bring their own food/container if needed only and will not be sharing for both sanitary and allergy awareness reasons.

We are not a peanut-free school but we do have nut allergies in our classes so if students are able to bring “nut-free” products that would be helpful. If a student forgets their snack, they can observe but we will not have extra food for them. Like all mindfulness activities, students are not required to participate if they do not wish.

Let's Talk Science!

Ms. Emily Ng (Grade 9 Math/Science) is starting to recruit for the Let’s Talk Science Challenge Competition again this year; past students have had a lot of fun at this event!

The Let's Talk Science Challenge is taking place this year at the University of Calgary on a Saturday in May. We are taking 4 teams of 4 students from grades 6-8.

Students need to sign up in teams of 3 or 4. If there are really interested students that do not have a team or are in a pair, they can come see me and I can arrange teams.

The format is similar to last year with a science and engineering quiz in the morning and a design challenge in the afternoon.

A video of the event is here: http://letstalkscience.ca/Programs/Lets-Talk-Science-Challenge

The Let’s Talk Science Challenge is a team-based competitive enrichment event offered for Grades 6-8 students by Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteers across Canada.

SPIRIT WEEK

Monday, November 25- Friday, November 29

Monday – Jersey Day

Tuesday – Crazy Hair/Hat Day

Wednesday – PJ Day

Thursday – Twin Day

Friday – Kodiak Gear Day

REMEMBRANCE DAY ASSEMBLY

Our Remembrance Day Assembly takes place on November 8th. Family and friends are invited to attend. There will be two assemblies and performances on the day of, in order to accommodate seating all of our grades at Nose Creek School. Due to the difficulty of timing assemblies, we have set our first assembly at 9:00 am, followed by a ten minute school-wide nutrition break, and then we will run our second assembly.

Students that are part of the performing groups in the assembly must attend a mandatory dress rehearsal on Thursday, November 7th from 3:00 – 5:00pm. This technical dress rehearsal will take place in the gym, and allows students an opportunity to practice performing with elements such as microphones, and risers. Students need to ensure they have a way home after rehearsal either through walking or a ride arranged by parents.

Students are asked to wear black bottoms and white tops for the performance.

Halloween

Dear Parents/guardians;

With Halloween coming up this Thursday, we would like to remind parents/guardians that if you choose to send your child in a Halloween costume it must be appropriate for a school setting, which includes an absence of fake weapons of any kind and cannot be violent or gory. No masks can be worn but face painting is okay. If your child would like to wear their pyjamas to school on Thursday, this is also an option.

Thank-you in advance for your cooperation and support. Please contact your child's homeroom teacher if you have any questions about this email.

Sincerely,

The Grade 7 Team

We love when you come to cheer on your NC teams! A few reminders about home games here at NC:

o Students can stay and watch the first game, then should be with their parents for all other games.

o If you are from another school, you should be with a parent.

o If you are here, you are watching the games (not wandering).

NCS - October 24 is Car Free Day!

On Thursday, October 24st, the Green Team is having a car free day. We are encouraging all students to find an alternative way to school that day (walk, bike, scooter). We have also set up 6 drop zones around the community. Please use the attached map or see zones below.

Drop Zones:

1. If you choose to drop the student at one of the 6 drop zones, please note the time as the group will be leaving ON TIME.

2. There will be teachers at each drop zone waiting to walk with the students. They will walk with them to school and back to the same drop zone after school.

3. Students will be responsible for finding the same teacher after school. Teachers will meet students outside at the front doors. Teachers will not be taking attendance and will be leaving to the same drop zone at 3:10.
