Mrs. Gail Pond Math/Science

March 31st-Starting online learning April 1st D2L- Brightspace.

Hi Everyone! It was great talking with you all today, and I miss seeing your smiling faces. For the few students I could not get in touch with, I left messages. Tomorrow we will be starting with our online learning. For the first few days, we would like for you to become familiar with D2L and there is a small assignment that needs to be completed. Every Monday, I will post what lessons we will be doing for the week for both math and science and what questions that will need to be completed. By Friday of each week, I would like for you to have the work completed. If there are changes I will let you know in advance. If you have any questions, concerns or need extra support please contact me.

http://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/NoseCreek/culture-environment/tech-tools/quicklinks/Pages/default.aspx

To get into brightspace, use the same login and password you use to get on to the computers at school. If you have forgotten either of these, please email me and let know so we can sort this out ASAP. If it is a password reset it might take some time as I have to contact Ms. Asis to do this.

We will start with doing an activity for our homerooms first.

This week:

  1. Log into Brightspace by D2L, read the start-up announcement and complete the first assignment.
  2. We will practice meeting digitally in a google classroom setting on Thursday at 12:30 pm. I will post instructions on the blog, the D2L shell and

WEEK OF 0CTOBER 15TH-19TH

MATH:

  • Students will have a test on the concepts covered for topics #3,4 and 5 for "Patterns and Relations". Quiz will be Tuesday, October 15th. They have all the material that they need to prepare for the quiz. Topics of focus are:

A. Know the component parts of an expression/equation

4n + 3= 11

4= Numerical coeifficient (Is the number that multiplies the variable).

n= variable (the unknown and can be any letter or symbol).

+= the operation (can be +, -, x or divide).

3= the constant term (will not change).

Sometimes there will be no constant term. If you have a variable by itself the numerical coeiffient is 1. For example: n + 4 = 6

B. Evaluate expressions. This means substituting in for the variable.

SHOW all work.

Ie: m=5

4m 4(5)=20

7m 7(5)=35

C. Patterns: Input and Output tables.

D. Write math expressions from english terms.

Four times a number increased by 6 is fourteen

4n x 6 = 14

Translate from english language to a math expression.

5n + 2 = 17

Two more than five times a number is seventeen. The more than is a switch word so the order will change in the expression.

E. Word Problems

Students will have to solve word problems by setting yp expressions and equations. Students have been highlighting important concepts to fin all of the important parts of the question. Use the CUBES strategy.

SCIENCE

    • I AM VERY EXCITED TO BE STARTING THE STRUCTURES AND FORCES UNIT.
