Hi Everyone! It was great talking with you all today, and I miss seeing your smiling faces. For the few students I could not get in touch with, I left messages. Tomorrow we will be starting with our online learning. For the first few days, we would like for you to become familiar with D2L and there is a small assignment that needs to be completed. Every Monday, I will post what lessons we will be doing for the week for both math and science and what questions that will need to be completed. By Friday of each week, I would like for you to have the work completed. If there are changes I will let you know in advance. If you have any questions, concerns or need extra support please contact me.
To get into brightspace, use the same login and password you use to get on to the computers at school. If you have forgotten either of these, please email me and let know so we can sort this out ASAP. If it is a password reset it might take some time as I have to contact Ms. Asis to do this.
We will start with doing an activity for our homerooms first.
This week:
March 27th
Thanks to those students who have submitted their "What if.... animal extinction?" project. If you have not shared your presentation please do so.
Miss you all :)
The next area of study would have been adding and subtracting fractions. Here are some helpful sites:

Students have been working on fractions this week in Math and have been given notes and practice sheets for the concepts covered to date. It is important that they take notes reviewed in class and ask for any notes that were missed during absentees.

Update:
Our Remembrance Day Assembly takes place on November 8th. Family and friends are invited to attend. There will be two assemblies and performances on the day of, in order to accommodate seating all of our grades at Nose Creek School. Due to the difficulty of timing assemblies, we have set our first assembly at 9:00 am, followed by a ten minute school-wide nutrition break, and then we will run our second assembly.
Students that are part of the performing groups in the assembly must attend a mandatory dress rehearsal on Thursday, November 7th from 3:00 – 5:00pm. This technical dress rehearsal will take place in the gym, and allows students an opportunity to practice performing with elements such as microphones, and risers. Students need to ensure they have a way home after rehearsal either through walking or a ride arranged by parents.
Students are asked to wear black bottoms and white tops for the performance.
Update:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
F.A.N.S. will start our next big fun fundraiser with Action Pack Coupon Booklets on November 4th to Nov. 21st. The booklets cost $25 each – of which $15 goes to Nose Creek School!! You can preview the coupons online at www.myactionpack.com . Please note that most of these coupons are truly a free admission. Example, Flying Squirrel for one hour – if you purchase 2 booklets – you can use both coupons for the one visit!
The order forms will be coming home with your child. Please return the completed form, with student name, homeroom teacher name, and moneys collected. All cheques should be made payable to F.A.N.S.
Thank you for your participation in this fundraiser.

REMINDER:
WEEK OF 0CTOBER 15TH-19TH
MATH:
A. Know the component parts of an expression/equation
4n + 3= 11
4= Numerical coeifficient (Is the number that multiplies the variable).
n= variable (the unknown and can be any letter or symbol).
+= the operation (can be +, -, x or divide).
3= the constant term (will not change).
Sometimes there will be no constant term. If you have a variable by itself the numerical coeiffient is 1. For example: n + 4 = 6
B. Evaluate expressions. This means substituting in for the variable.
SHOW all work.
Ie: m=5
4m 4(5)=20
7m 7(5)=35
C. Patterns: Input and Output tables.
D. Write math expressions from english terms.
Four times a number increased by 6 is fourteen
4n x 6 = 14
Translate from english language to a math expression.
5n + 2 = 17
Two more than five times a number is seventeen. The more than is a switch word so the order will change in the expression.
E. Word Problems
Students will have to solve word problems by setting yp expressions and equations. Students have been highlighting important concepts to fin all of the important parts of the question. Use the CUBES strategy.
SCIENCE
Science in the News
Every Friday from now until winter break (Fridays), students will be presenting their "Science in the News". They have been given a yellow outline detailing all questions that need to be answered. They also have to present this information either on google slides, prezzi etc. to the rest of the class. It is very important that they present on the date that was given to them because we only have so many assigned dates. Each student has been given a date and it is also posted in the classroom.
Sept-30th-Oct 4th

They will have to include and complete all aspects of the "Scientific Method".

*Students have been working on Number Concepts: Divisibility Rules. They have created a "Divisibility Rule" booklet to familiarize themselves with the rules. There will be a quiz on Thursday, September 19th on topics 1-2. They have their practice sheets and notes to help prepare.
*There are also numerous sites that they can search to help practice these rules.
Science
*Over the past two weeks students have been working on the introductory booklets for science. We have currently covered safety, WHMIS, and lab equipment. This week we will cover measurement, the scientific method and graphing. The following week, we will have a quiz covering these topics.
*We are very excited to be starting our "4th Annual Science Fair". Students have had the opportunity to review various possible areas for ideas. They have chosen their partners, but they can be chose to work on their own. It is extremely important to let their science fair teacher know early if the partnership is not working. They have/will be given a log book to keep track of their progress. Updates to follow.
