Making a Difference and Doing the Best You Can

Here are a few little videos students can watch and think about how this could apply to our current situation with COVID-19. It might help them reflect on what they do have control of and how they can help (i.e. social distancing, kindness, washing hands, etc.)

I will be a Hummingbird - an inspiring tale of doing the best you can under seemingly interminable odds

Starfish story - a story of the power within each one of us to make a difference in the lives of others. A powerful reminder that we should be here for each other, even in small ways, whenever we can.

Field trip on Thursday has been Canceled

For more information from the Safety Expo, see below:

Event Cancellation Notice: Safety Expo 2020

We have been carefully monitoring the concerns with the spread of COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to cancel the Safety Expo event planned for March 11th and 12th. Although all information we have from Alberta Health Services indicates that the risk to Albertans is low, we made this decision based on the large number of grade five and six students that would be attending from across Calgary, including some with compromised immune systems. The focus of this event is on safety, and our priority is the safety and well-being of our employees and our youth attendees.

Please note that Safety Expo values your commitment, time, and energy taken to participate in this year’s event. We sincerely apologize to all participants for the unfortunate circumstance and ask for your understanding as we overcome this challenge together.

Field trip, March 12

Grade 6's are going to the Safety Expo on Thursday, March 12 at City Hall. This field trip is completely free and we will have our very own city transit busses coming to pick us up! Parent volunteers are needed and wanted! Please email us if you'd like to come. Thanks!

Remembrance Day Assemblies

Our Remembrance Day Assembly takes place on November 8th. Family and friends are invited to attend. There will be two assemblies and performances on the day of, in order to accommodate seating all of our grades at Nose Creek School. Due to the difficulty of timing assemblies, we have set our first assembly at 9:00 am, followed by a ten minute school-wide nutrition break, and then we will run our second assembly.

Students that are part of the performing groups in the assembly must attend a mandatory dress rehearsal on Thursday, November 7th from 3:00 – 5:00pm. This technical dress rehearsal will take place in the gym, and allows students an opportunity to practice performing with elements such as microphones, and risers. Students are asked to wear black bottoms and white tops for the performance.

Dear Parents/guardians;

With Halloween coming up this Thursday, we would like to remind parents/guardians that if you choose to send your child in a Halloween costume it must be appropriate for a school setting, which includes an absence of fake weapons of any kind and cannot be violent or gory. No masks can be worn but face painting is okay. If you do not recognize or celebrate Halloween and would like your child not to participate in any Halloween themed activities on Thursday, October 31st, please make sure your child’s teacher is aware as we will have alternative non-Halloween activities planned. If your child would like to wear their pj's to school on Thursday, this is also an option.

Thank-you in advance for your cooperation and support. Please contact your child's homeroom teacher if you have any questions about this email.

Sincerely,

The Grade 6 Team
