Reminders:

In Numeracy, we have been learning about some awesome things! Right now, we are focusing on fractions, decimals and percentages and how they are all connected.
We have also been learning about probability, and how likely something is to happen. To do this, we have been able to test out a whole range of online resources, which has been really cool!
Reminder to all students and parents! It’s really important to spend at least 10 minutes a day on My Numeracy. It’s a great way to practice what we’ve learned and keep improving.
In Literacy, we have been learning all about biographies, how to write them, what we need to include in them and how to make sure our writing is both factual and engaging.
We have also been continuing with our morphology work, focusing on pre-fixes that mean to or towards.
Our literature circle groups have been going really well, with most groups reading a novel and completing their literature circle roles each week! We have been enjoying reading our new books but sometimes its hard to stop!
For the first few weeks of this term, year 6 sport has been taken over by our swimming lessons at Splash! We have been focusing on improving our skills in the water and, if we are not swimming, our knowledge of how to be safe around the water.
It has been lots of fun to be able to swim with our friends!
We will be swimming every friday from week 2 to week 6 so please make sure we have packed our towels and extra snacks!
We have kick started our new CBL topic all about science and the environment by doing some science experiments!
This experiment helped us to create a tornado in a bottle! Follow these steps to try it out at home:
MATERIALS:
(2) 2-litre clear plastic pop bottles (empty and clean)
Water
duct tape that will connect the (2) 2-liter bottles together
Food colouring
Glitter or other sequins
PROCESS:
Fill one of the bottles two-thirds full of water. Include food colouring and glitter or sequins.
Use duct tape to fasten the two bottles together at the top. Make sure to tape tightly to make sure that no water will leak out when you turn the bottle over.
Turn the bottles over, so that the bottle with the water is on top. Swirl the bottle in a circular motion.

On Thursday the 24th of April, the ACPS community reflected and remembered those who have fought for Australia in various combat situations, paying our respects by creating wreaths of red and purple poppies and laying them at the front of our assembly.
Each year 6 class did an incredible job of creating wreaths that were unique and meaningful, and showed a great deal of respect during an assembly that was a little different from what they were used to. They should be incredibly proud of themselves!
Lest we forget.

We were given the opportunity to make our own patterns using lots of different resources to get us ready for using rules to create patterns. We are really excited to explore this topic more throughout this term
This week at ACPS, the whole school completed a narrative cold write! A cold write is a writing task where we are given a prompt and get to create a text based on the prompt in a give time. The prompt grade 6 was given this time was the image you can see above!
It was fun to challenge ourselves to write a creative piece in a short time!
For year 6 sport, we have continued with our swimming program at Splash. We only have a few weeks left to go but it has been super fun swimming with our friends.
We have all learned so much about swimming and how to be safe around water
Thanks Splash!
In CBL, we have been learning about how to Wurundjeri people organise their seasons and how they manage their land. It has been really interesting to see how the seasons we know line up with the seasons used my a different culture!
We have also been focusing on how Indigenous people handle natural disasters in each season and comparing them to methods we use today.

On Tuesday the 13th of May, students from the grade 5 and 6 cohorts had the opportunity to attend our day camp at PGL Campaspe Downs Camp. The day was jam packed full of fun activities including a rock climbing wall, archery and a leap of faith.
