VET
Vocational Education & Training
The decision to include VET in a VCE program should be based on the student’s:
Aspirations and plans for further study/work
Total picture of all VCE studies and the associated workload
Motivation and willingness to undertake responsibility. Generally, students attend TAFE one day per week, usually on a Wednesday. It is student’s responsibility to complete work missed that day for homework.
In VET programs with scored assessment (exam) the study score contributes to the calculation of the ATAR. VET programs without scored assessment may be counted as fifth and/or sixth studies. The increment will be 10% of the average of the primary four ATAR subject scores.
Course costs may be associated with VET programs. The government and the school provide a subsidy towards these costs of these course. Parents of VCE and VCE VM students may be required to personal tools and PPE, depending on the course selected.
For Vet programs offered in the Hobson’s Bay cluster, there is a free bus that provides transport for students to travel to programs within the cluster. The bus provides one way transportation for programs beginning in the afternoon. Students will need to navigate their own way home from program providers.
In 2024, Homestead Senior Secondary College will offer a VET Workplace Skills onsite.
